Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata wanted a Christmas 2010 launch for the Nintendo 3DS, but was forced to "delay" the release because of production worries.

That's according to MF Global FXA Securities analyst Jay Defibaugh, who's claimed that Iwata told analysts his company was originally shooting for a date sometime this year for the handheld.

Speaking after Nintendo's big press conference this morning, the analyst called the announced February Japan data a "worst-case scenario" for the firm.

Defibaugh went on to say he had hoped for a 2010 launch and a lower 20,000 ($240) price point versus the 25,000 ($299) Nintendo revealed.

In similar worries, analyst Colin Sebastian predicted that the later than expected release will cause supply constraints in the West.

Come on guys, at least it looks good - right?

Expect long lines in America and Japan with shortages in America, better start pre-ordering. I'll preorder when Play Asia has it available for preorder which could be in the next few weeks.

I think I'll just wait for a flashcard for the 3DS that runs DS, DSi and 3DS games.
Your wait isn't going to be a short one, it'l probably never happen.

And if it's region-locked? You'll be stuck buying more expensive, import games for the life of the system.

I'll happen eventually. I don't care when, though, as long as there's some device like the NDS Adapter Plus that lets me dump save data off cartridge relatively soon after launch. I like having a backup of the save data on my PC in case I lose the cartridge somehow; can just restore it when I buy a new copy.

Well Nintendo did not bother blocking flash carts on DSi XL.

So all those people saying it would come out this year were partially right. They at least had their finger on the pulse of Nintendo. Too bad it didn't happen. I don't want to spend my money on Kinect, but now it seems like that's what I'm going to do.
