Almost got into a gang fight lol

So anyway.
I was out with some friends this evening just having a good time and generally fucking around the only area of town where there's any good nightlife. Unfortunately, it's sort of near some ghetto areas too.
Me and the other guys that went were just sitting and eating in a hipsterish diner, and two of my friends were making fun of the people outside the Window-wall. So these 10 or so black kids (ages 7-14) walked by, totally ghetto with their shirts up behind their necks ect. And they make fun of them and stuff, doing the little confrontational jump thing. And the 7-year-old does it back XD.
So then the kids come back. I guess they were just walking around with no money looking for something to do. The guys that were joking around the first time joked about them again, and it was fine.
Then they came into the restaurant and the little kids were all like "what you tryin ta say"
But we just laughed it off and they left. We left a few minutes later after we paid.

So then they start following us and confronting us. We continued to laugh about it, and who wouldn't? It was a bunch of middle and elementary schoolers trying to be tough.
But that pissed them off. They start attacking the main joker, because he was the one that first made fun of them, and then his friends goes in to defend him. 3 fucking kids jump on him and start beating him up, he can't fight back because he's 19 and could go to jail for it. He gets them off pretty fast but one of them punches him in the lip and somehow gets a piece of it to sort of come off... The rest of us didn't really know what was going on, and by the time I did and tried to defend the guy the other kids surrounded me to make sure I didn't try anything.
But damn I sort of wanted them to attack me because I wanted to help the poor guy but I can only get crazy when someone else hits first.

but anyway that is my halfway-coherent story of how I almost got into a sort-of gang fight.

That's hardly a "gangfight" as it's commonly defined (it usually involves guns and knives). Anyway, I'm hoping you learned not to do something like that again.

We were walking toward the cops, who were just guarding the restaurants like they are hired to do but not really paying much attention. It was dark and they were a bit far away. We did tell a cop once we got where we were going, and my friend has informed me that the kids got arrested later that night.


oh and @ all the people that said we were pussies: I can see where you are coming from. But I know that at least 75% of you would have done pretty much the same thing I did, and the remaining 25% would have done what my friend did, just enough to get them away.

Wrong. You would not do that. I have thought the exact same thing many times. And when it came down to it, I didn't realize what was going on until it was too late, and by that point it was a smarter choice to just keep walking.

The thing is that this were kids, so they acted childish..

I got mixed feelings about this. Personally I'd have smacked at least one of the little MTV rap video cast offs for their trouble, but what you guys did was a much more responsible and kinder thing to do.
