What's the best way of moving my Gamecube saves (from real a memory card) to my Wii U? I want to be able to use my original saves on Nintendont/Injects. I know you need to use GCMM & Dolphin..but what are the exact steps? I'm not too familiar with Dolphin's layout.

Hack an original Wii with GameCube ports, Letterbomb is the easiest exploit and supports SD Cards over 2 GB. Or get an SD Media Launcher and attempt to get the SD Gecko that's included to work, you'll need an SD Card 2 GB or under though.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I really appreciate it. Yes, I do have a hacked Wii, as well. I got up to the point where I was in Dolphin, but didn't really know how to navigate it well. I don't emulate very often anymore.

I used this tutorial to find some clues on how how to do this, but it's not a good video. I followed it up until the end & it didn't really work for me. I might have done something wrong. Maybe this will remind y'all on how to do it..

He might already have a hacked wii he didn't specify. But since he knows about gcmm I assume he already does. He wants to know how to go from there. I want to help further but can't remember all the steps and can't find the tutorial I used. I know you copy all saves from your memory card using gcmm then go to dolphin go to tools go to gamecube memory card manager. But you need to have a blank memory card to load there and I can't remember how to get one. If I find the tutorial I'll update my post or maybe someone else will help. Sorry.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

1) Download GCMM onto your SD card (put it in the apps folder)

2) Put it in your wii, as well as your memory cards, and run it from the homebrew channel.

3) Make a raw backup of your entire memory card to SD or HDD.

4) Remove your memory card, and start a game with NMM enabled.

5) When your game starts, it will automatically create a NMM save if NMM is set to enabled. Power off the wii and remove SD and HDD, put them in your pc. You want to swap the newly created NMM file with your real save. Find the folder called MCBACKUP on your SD or HDD root, and also the SAVES folder on the root of your SD or HDD. The MCBACKUP has the backup of your card you created in GCMM, and the SAVES folder has the NMM file that Nintendont created when you played the game briefly.

6) Start Dolphin and use the memory card manager to open both your backup and the NMM file side by side. Delete the savegame created by Nintendont, and copy over the save from your real memory card backup.

7) Put your HDD and SD back into the wii and start Nintendont again (with NMM still enabled). Start the game you played briefly earlier, and you moved the save over for, and your save should now be a NMM file, and the real save is still on your gamecube memory card. It should load the save.

Do this for every game that has a save you want to keep (starting at the 'start the game in Nintendont to let it create a save file' part, if the next file you want to copy over to NMM is from the same memory card you backed up) It's how I have my smash bros and zelda saves as NMM files, and the memory cards are now safely stored away. Your entire memory card backup is also still safely in the MCBACKUP folder. I did this for only a few saves and it worked fine. Remember to use a save with the correct version of the game (ie don't try load a PAL wind waker save with the NTSC wind waker) and you shouldn't have any problems.

Make sure when you go to Nintendont and enable NMM you start a game otherwise the changes won't take effect.

GCMM is rather simple, have the Memory Card you want to manage in any slot, boot up GCMM, and choose the options. You can inject a .GCI file, you can dump a .GCI file, you can delete save games, you can dump the whole thing in a .raw format. Specifically for the Wii U, since all Memory Cards are virtual, I prefer to set the block size to 1019. So say you play Twilight Princess on your GameCube, and you want to transfer it to your Wii U. Boot GCMM and dump just Twilight Princess (should show up as a .GCI file), create a save file on your Wii U by just booting up Twilight Princess once. The Wii U will create a virtualized Memory Card in .raw format, copy that and the GameCube .GCI on your computer, load up Dolphins Memory Card manager, and open up the .raw file, it should be largely empty except for a lone Twilight Princess save, in the middle of the window between Memory Card A & B, it should give you the option to import a .GCI file, select it and choose the .GCI file you copied off your real GameCube Memory Card. It will want to overwrite the existing save and after you do, just replace the old .raw formay memory with modified .raw format Memory Card on your Wii U's SD and you are good to go.

Hello. I need some assistance on this. I think I'm close, but I tried following OldGnashburg's instructions and I'm hitting a couple roadblocks. I thought I could post screenshots of what files I have and see what my next steps should be. I do have Dolphin installed so I can use the Memory Card Manager. In this example I will focus on trying to bring over my Mario Toadstool Tour save.

First I went to my old Wii and used GCMM to extract the save. I did it 2 ways. The full card (as a .raw file) and just the game (as a .gci file).

Original Save.png
Then, I started the game on my WiiU and it generated a .raw file.

What do I do next?

I can successfully load the GFTE.raw file. The mario golf icon shows up on the left hand side (under Memory Card A). But, when I click on Import GCI and choose the .gci file I get a message that says "memcard already has a save for this title".

Delete the file that's already on there and then import it.

When you start asking questions like "do I need to convert .raw to .gci" when I didn't tell you to do that you're making things more complicated for yourself no reason.

Nintendont uses one memory card per game, each .raw file is a memory card that Nintendont uses. So you just delete the file that's on there because that's the save you just made on Wii U and you don't need, and import the one you got from Wii. Then you will have a properly working save. You will have to do this for each game that you want to import saves for, one memory card per game. So if you have 20 games with saves you want to import you will have 20 .raws, each with 1 save after you delete and import. You will need to make a new save on the Wii U for each game like you did for this game and repeat the process for each and every game.

Really sorry about that. I didn't mean to add confusion. If it helps I'll delete that question from my previous post. Just let me know.

Telling me to delete the previous save was really helpful. I'm sure it was obvious, but I think I just missed that step and didn't want to do anything wrong.

You've been so helpful and I appreciate it. You've really helped me get all of this up and running and I'm having a blast doing it!

EmulateLife, thanks again for the help. The saves have been transferring. I do have a follow-up question. The only games I have not yet attempted to transfer are the Baten Kaitos games. The reason is that both games have multiple saves. Do you have any advice on how to transfer them? From what I recall, there were multiple save states within the same save file. Does that make sense? Rather than multiple users' save files. Just one user (me) played the game.

Here's what it looks like in the Dolphin Memory Card Manager:

MemCardManager.PNG

And here are what the files look like:

Baten Kaitos (3 saves).PNG

Baten Kaitos Origins (2 saves).PNG

I hate to bump my question, but this is these are the last saves I need to transfer... Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this situation with the Baten Kaitos games? Thanks so much!

In Dolphin tools > memory manager load GFTE.raw from your sd card and import the .gci to it. Then try it on your Wii U.
The .raw file will be the newly created from WiiU right? After importing the .gci to it what’s next? Close the window then where do I find the file to place for Nintendont?

This worked for me. Thank you so much! Super simple and clear. I opened a blank.raw in dolphin and then imported the .gci and loaded right up. Emu mem ON/ Individual/ 251 or 1019 blocks both work.

My question now is how can restore the newly progressed data back to my GameCube? Same way but backwards?
