NSP files are a little bit smaller than XCI, but in general if you want to run XCI, use SX OS, run them off HDD or the SD card, it is like storage for physical copy games, they aren't installed on to the system using SX OS.
You gain the ability to play .XCI game files, which are much more enjoyable having no need to install them. Saves time, saves space, saves headaches.
