Hacking Just got my G6 and I'm a noob.

Just a couple of questions:

1) How do I "activate" the main screen (where you see games, multimedia, passcard, pda) ? I have to go through the file menus to get my game folder.

2) Once playing a game, is there a way to back out of the game and select another from my list? (like soft reset or something)

ASSUMING you have a G6 DS Real and not a G6 Lite...

1) Make sure you have the latest "system" folder from handheldsources.com, I think that there's a Boot.ini file which can boot directly to a game, but if not then you should begin with the proper menu.

2) Yes, soft-reset works with many games. When you launch a game from the menu, you'll be given this option on screen.

Ok, I downloaded the new system folder and everything works well.

One last question...how many games + saves can I fit on the 1gb version of the G6 Real? I am headed on a trip soon and don't want to have too games on there that I won't be able to save.

about 18:
on average, most games are 32/64 MB. The little gems and puzzle games are generally 16 MB, and the epic, FMV/music-filled games are 128MB

Thus, your cart will likely have something like this:
2x128MB games = 256 MB used
8x64MB games = 768 MB used
4x32MB games = 894 MB used
4x16MB games = 958 MB used

41MB left is generally used for system files, saves, and you can throw in another 2 small games

And as far as saving goes, I don't have to do anything special, right? I mean, I can play 2 hours of a game, save it like normal, and load that game after the system is turned off and on?

it is sugguested that immediately after you save, you return to the G6 game menu (where it will say processing), whether you do so by turning your system off and on, or by using soft reset is up to you.

The "processing" bar is so that your save games load from the ram into internal memory. The RAM is powered by charged capacitors, but they die out when left out for too long without staying in a charging DS/USB Linker. If you don't do this, you risk losing your game's save to the volatile RAM.

Yes, but even if you do, it is sugguested that immediately after you save, you return to the G6 game menu (where it will say processing), whether you do so by turning your system off and on, or by using soft reset is up to you. Just for security, it's a 5 second thing, so it's not really much trouble

OK, got it. I agree, that's not much trouble. But to charge the card, does that just mean plugging the card into the reader and charging through USB (from my pc)?

You charge the card in the DS itself, leave it in the DS when you charge it.
