If I was you, I would manually update Luma by drag n' drop the arm9loaderhax.bin to SD and then move it to CTRNAND with FBI/GodMode9, just to be safe

I tested Mario Kart Super Circuit with 6.6 on CTRNAND and it loads fine.
Odd, for me it only works if the luma arm9.bin is also present on root of sd card, are you sir you don't have the cfw present on your sdcard?

CTRNAND is the main part of the nand. there is also TWLN, TWLP, AGBSAVE, FIRM0, and FIRM1.

I finally have a disposable 3DS, what firmware does it have to be on in order for me to install CFW or this CFW?

it is a good idea though, if you haven't, to update your a9lh to v3 and then place the luma arm9loaderhax.bin on the root of ctrnand using FBI or godmode9 to launch a cfw without a sd card
Oh. Didn't know that was possible. I guess useful if one's SD card should fail. Will Safe a9lh installer update it?

No it will just put the new one on the SD card. Then you'll have to copy it to CTRNAND.

I tried to use Luma Updater but I get an error message every time (Could not find out/Luma3DS.dat - DOWNLOAD FAILED).
I'm on Luma3DS v5.5 right now.

Update2: Yea, even with the latest update released 11hrs ago, I still cant play gba without a copy of a payload on the sd
