My o3DS is on 7.1. What's the best course of action?
Keep it on 7.1, install CFW and update emuNAND to 10.3?
Update to 10.3, downgrade to 9.2 and install CFW?

What can I even do on the firmware? I've been forever lost on the 3DS scene. I used to have Tubehax and Ironhax on an older firmware as they were really straightforward but now I'm just at a loss

Is it okay to update Gateway Emunand 9.5 to 10.3 through System Settings > Other Settings > System Update for N3DS? I remember using systemupdater to update to 9.5 once and I bricked my Emunand and had do it again. Currently, I do not have Cubic Ninja and I'm afraid it will revert my DS Profile and I will lose the entryway for Gateway.
EDIT: Alright I went on and updated it. DS Profile entryway is still there and Emunand is now 10.3. No problem at all.

If i downgrade my O3DS to 4.5 fw and install some legit cias with funkycia2, can i upgrade sysNAND after this process and still have those games i installed as playable games on my 3DS? Will those games be recognized as legit cias on 10.3 sysNAND fw?
Well, i've seen i can convert 3ds games (.3ds) into .cia files, which means i should be able to play anything anyway...So if i downgrade now and put a CFW, but then i decide to try gateway, would it be troublesome to switch to it?
Cause, gateway's sure is better, but it's not excatly cheap and requires shipping, which is annoying to deal with, while setting up a micro sd is free and immediate. :3

Found a nice 3dsxl still on 7.2. I have access to a Gateway as well, but would like to hear some suggestions as to the best course of action. I don't have cubic ninja, but do have Ocarina of Time. I could downgrade to 4.5 using the gateway, but after doing some reading some don't recommend doing this.
As a recent newcomer myself, I know that the scene can be very overwhelming as it's not incredibly organized or clear what is best for what and when. At your firmware though, 10.3, you'll need to downgrade before you can do anything else. A guide can be find in this section of the forums, although from my phone I can't link it, sorry.
Not yet, although probably soon-ish. That seems to be the consensus, anyway, that it'll be here soon. But no, as of right now, 10.3 is the latest.

Alright, trying to update emuNAND from 7.1 to latest. I keep getting "An error has ocurred, unable to update, the system will now be restarted". What do I do?

I have a 3DSXL and its running Ver. 10.3.0-28E, I have a R4 SDHC 2016 Card running wood-v162.rar + R4i-V3.6b English.
At present DS files are ok but 3DS ones wont work.
Am i doing something wrong or is it down to the firmware ect.
I am totally new to the scene and would appreciate any further help and guidance as to what can be achieved.

R4 are for DS only... Get CFW or gateway for 3ds games.

Yeah i meant linker of course! So I can buy any 3DS right now & then easily installed CFW, then launch any backup?
Different theme : playing DS games on 3DS screen : do they look any better (cause of 3D)? All 3DS have a 3D intensity wheel?
