Hehe I know it was long and ppl might go and say tl;dr but it had some crucial info you obviously missed.

First, my hdd is an old Freecom 500 GB with both an ethernet port and USB 2.0 connection (sort of first gen network sharing idea, its atleast 10 years old)

Second, booting nintendont's original wad errors out when i start a game from the list telling me me my games aint right (DiscEx, trimmed and original isos made with the GC tool from WiiBackupManagers creator), Dios Mios loads the startup screen just fine out of the GX menu but wants me to install to SD.

Third, i went through all the menus but cant find the GC loader option anywhere. Where should it be?

Fourth, the games are in, for example HDD:/games/gamename [ID]/game.iso or HDD:/games/[ID] gamename/game.iso (trimmed or clean) with a dir in them (DiscEx).

Most/All off this was in the short novel I posted covering history of the console and too I used/things I installed this time around :P haha.

Could you link me to the new IOS versions I should use so I know I have the right ones. And can I just WAD install them overwriting the old versions?

Thanks :)
For gamecube games having the Drive formatted to FAT32 and the partition set to primary, active and a 32 KB cluster size is required for Dios-Mios to function properly.

Gamecube settings are listed in the loader menu in the settings scroll down past the wii games.

I don't know what Nintendont WAD you are talking about i've never heard of it unless it's a system menu forwarder or app for nintendont.

this is a personal preference but when I put GC games on my hard drive their listed like this.
HDD:/games/Super Mario Sunshine [GMSE01]/game.iso

all of my games are trimmed I haven't run into issues like other user's have stated will happen.

Really? a quick google search for d2x cios brings you to this page https://code.google.com/p/d2x-cios/
yes you can grab the latest wad's from modmii and install them that way.

Oh I got them installed already, I used NUSD to create them.

The forwarder channel loads the correct version (Rev 1246 IOS250 (Rev 21008) + AHB (d2x v8 final base 57)) etc. and it gives me the new gamecube options now but it doesn't load my HDD, it either hangs on Initializing hdd or it says "waiting for HDD x seconds", I tried switching slots (going into the HDD settings causes the menu to lock up so you cant exit anymore btw, you can move around but the only way out is a reset) but that didn't work either.

I reinstalled the old channel with the older version, rebooted my wii and it loads my HDD just fine. I tried the Forwarder channel in the same session, HDD not detected.

The only thing I can think of is the fact that I'm on firmware 4.1 being an issue but that seems a little bit far fetched maybe.

I'm assuming (obviously judging by the SM version you have) that you're using a Wii.
ok, start from scratch. Update the system menu (does nintendo still provide updates for the wii? You could try I guess...) Go to options and update from there.
After that, Use modmii and tell it that your wii is virgin. First time modding it. Follow the guide it generates to a T and then come back here so we can work with your USB drive issues. If you keep tying random stuff and reinstalling channels and things you obviously don't understand you will f**k up your console. And Im guessing you dont have bootmii or a backup of your nand. So please. Stop everything and do as I say. That"ll get you on your way.

Lol yeah it's a normal Wii, my bad.

I think ModMii provides a modded update option methinks, atleast, I think I saw someone discuss it somewhere... I'm terrified of losing the one channel thst works but I guess it should be able to work with a new version as well, atleast, it's not like my Wii doesn't recognize my HDD at all, it's just the newer channels of GX and Wiiflow etc. that don't.

So what version should I go to, 4.3E?

And I can't seem to download GX through ModMii either when going from 4.1 to 4.3, just Config USB and Wiiflow, just pick one and ignore?

Oh and someone else said my HDD should be fat32 with 32k clusters, forgot to answer, it is. No other partitions either.

Just try to update it from the console itself (I'm not sure if Nintendo still provides updates or if they stopped when online services did... Either way it wouldn't hurt to try)
*EDIT* Yes it does: http://en-americas-support.nintendo...il/a_id/4157/~/how-to-perform-a-system-update

If it works, great! if it doesn't ModMii will get the files for you. Don't worry.
Forget about those "other options" on ModMii, just use the one for virgin Wiis.
And regarding your SM version, yeah 4.3 is the last one. the E stands for europe so if your Wii is PAL then yes, 4.3E would be the right one. If it is NTSCU it would be 4.3U.
Just go and try to update from the console right now. Let me know if it worked.

Nope the nintendo service is down, can't be reached :P.

Setting up from virgin wii it still asks me to pick a USB loader, I'll just select leave it to Configurable USB loader which is default and continue.

Don't worry about that. Just select "Don't download USBLOADERS" or whatever the option is called. We'll get to that after your system is up to date.
First get your Wiis MAC Address (Go to options on your wii, internet, console information) and write it down.
These are the options you should select in ModMii:
1: W
2: y
3: (Your current System Menu) 4.1 I think?
4: IS your console PAL/NTSC? Select your region here.
5: W (discless exploit)
6: Enter your Wiis MAC address.
7: yes
8: 4.3
9: ALL
10: Whatever you like. I'd stay on the default boring system menu just so it goes with USBLOADER GXs design but thats just me.
11: No
12: Yes.
13: default
14: yes (generate guide etc)

Thats it.
Let me know when you're done.

There should be no need to use a tool to install GC games. Just make sure the MD5 hash is valid and put it in the /games/ folder with the proper name and directory structure.
All the more reason for you to release your "GCBAckup manager" tool ;)
That would help get things right for most of these guys. (And make things easier for guys like me) :ha:

I JUST did it not a minute ago.
Please try it again with the options I gave you. And nothing else.
Let me know what happens.

The same one. You can't use any other but the last one.
Guys, isn't it easier going to Wii options and update the system from there?
Apparently Nintendo doesn't offer updates anymore. He says he tried and it didn't work.

I dunnow, nintendo tells me to update, gives me the speech about how they might F up your system if you modded things and then it says can't connect to the server visit blablabla nintendo information *shrugs*.

but read up sideskroll, do you have a different modmii then I do because mine doesn't work like that methinks, different options as far as I can tell.

Edit nevermind you already did.

Uhmm let me try again then following what you said.

5: W (discless exploit)
6: Enter your Wiis MAC address.
7: yes

That doesn't happen it goes from asking my region to selecting new system, you sure your modmii is 4.6.1 as well?

Ok, but that seems a temporary issue. Another possibility is using one of the latest released games and update from disc channel.
Both options are easier and faster than using modmii, but if you have no choice...

Nooo, don't update system menu. Why users are suggesting that? please, don't tell users to do unuseful things (system menu has NOTHING to do with homebrew compatibility)
4.1 is the best one, do not install 4.3 !

He had finally softmodded his console correctly.
all he had to do is try another boot.dol of the loader

Sorry. My bad.
You're using an outdated version (I'm not sure why it didn't ask you to update on startup...) either way.
Here you go:

Cyan, it shouldn't matter. What is the difference between 4.1 and 4.3? In terms of homebrew support.
Maybe you know something I don't...

Alright I'll take Cyans word for it then and not install 4.3 :P
No problem then.
Just stay on the same SM.
But follow everything else I told you.
And there's the link for the last version of ModMii.
