PLAY, a UK gaming magazine, have spilled the beans and supposedly outed the two latest PS3 exclusives to be revealed. The magazine reported that God of War IV and Syphon Filter 4 will be announced next month, and both face a 2012 release.

“Sony Santa Monica’s call for an online dev to join its ranks has many thinking the inevitable God of War IV will include online play. We could stop and ask why, but then we could also ask there’s another game when GOW III was meant to be Kratos’s last outing. We’re not complaining though.”

The magazine also had this to say regarding Syphon Filter 4:
“As far as our spies tell us, Syphon Filter 4 will be announced and released during 2012 – they’re not often wrong either. Developed by SCE London Studio (once thought to be Sony Bend), it will see a return to the world of shooting, espionage and Gabe Logan’s superb name.”

God of ...ZZzzzzzZzZ

i'll stick to fun action games. I've never been able to stand GoW. Dunno why. I love games similar to it, but just can't stand how lame GoW is.
Unless, I suppose, they fix their formula and make #4 fun, which is always possible.

Please explain to me how some people can think that Halo is being milked, but yet God of War isn't.. Assuming this rumor is true of course.

Anyways, they're good games, but I thought God of War 3 "ended" it? Didn't it?

I thought that God of War was great, but I couldn't really get into the second one. I've never been able to try the third one, but I've never really felt all that compelled to either.

So... meh.

Chains of Olympus, 1, Ghost of Sparta, 2, 3, and now 4...

All of it basically being the same game, and Kratos' shallow character throughought the entire series gos from "I'm pissed" to "Ok I'm really pissed now" to "Deception again?! Oh I'm super pissed."

Its about as bad as milking as Halo or Kingdom Hearts.

I'd say Final Fantasy VII too, but not one game of the FF7 compilation are even alike, let alone any good.

FFVII is so milked with its one release and two spin off games in the course of like ten years. Oh, and one film if you want to count that. SO MILKED ITS RIDICULOUS.

God of War isn't really meant to be "deep" or anything. It's gorey fun. It may not exactly be full on intelligent level design but ripping apart large monsters piece by piece in ridiculous ways is entertaining in a "watching a cheap action movie" type of way. If you want deeper games with similar premises you can definitely find them, if you want something that's pretty to look at and really gorey than God of War is a good choice.

God of War is an action game. As I don't expect my action movies to have deep, highly developed characters with a complex plot, I don't expect God of War to. As a mindless action game, where you hammer out combos and utilize magic, these games never fail to be fun. Toss in some platforming exploration aspects, and you have a wonderful experience.

God of War was kinda meh, while God of War 2 fixed nearly everything that was wrong with the first game. I would guess three is good, but I still haven't had the chance to play it. Chains of Olympus was okay, but it felt a lot like God of War 1 in the respect that it was the company's first PSP outing. It definitely was easy to tell. Ghost of Sparta was the God of War 2 of the PSP. It was so incredibly improved. It truly felt like the mobile God of War that they were trying to create.

Remember, Greek myth is rich and deep. Despite what may have happened in the last three games, there is always more trickery that can be performed. Manipulation is pretty much a past time of the gods, and the monsters of myth remain numerous. There is always a new tale that can be woven. There is only forward from here, since the PSP titles filled the gaps between each game pretty well, while GoW 3 was a direct sequel to GoW 2, leaving no room for misinterpretation of in between events (as far as I'm aware). With the room for a prequel stolen early on, I would love to see what they can manage this time.

As for Syphon Filter, eeeehhhhhh. Those kind of tactical espionage games have never been my cup of tea.

Since Advent Children, we've seen not only the movie, but the re-release of the movie on blue ray. Then those anime shorts, then before crisis, then crisis core, then dirge of cerberus, then all those cameos in other games, a re-release of 7 on PSN, then that special PS3 tech demo video that got fanboys something to not shut up about then re-releases of that terrible one winged angel song.

BEFORE Kingdom Hearts, God of War, Halo, and most other franchises begun being milked, Final Fantasy 7 was among the 1st of them. FF fans and video game enthusiasts in general have been saying that Square has been milking / beating a dead horse metaphor towards FF7 for the past 5+ years.

A series being milked is only a bad thing if it becomes stagnant.
They've managed to keep every FF7 related product quite unique to eachother. Don't like FF7? That's cool, don't play it or any of the games spawned from it, and dodge watch any of the animations. There's no point bitching though, because there's no real reason TO bitch. They've milked the FF7 universe, sure, but they've done it well, which isn't something a lot of games seem to pull off.
