You can grind your gears all you want, reality is that metroid wasnt fps when it first came out
Mario wasn't 3D when that came out so the two Galaxy games aren't Mario games?
Same goes to Zelda.

The only thing that is difference between the Prime series and the others games is the perspective.

Regarding the complaints about Metroid Prime: It was in first person perspective, yes, but look at all it got right. It captured the essence of what Metroid was, the aloneness, the atmosphere, the exploration and collection, everything. It was more Metroid than Fusion, even though Fusion was in your precious 2D.

As for Other M, one of the biggest complaints I've heard about it is that the controls are awkward. People saying this seem to have forgotten that Super Metroid had equally awkward controls, in almost the same way. The controls really do capture what Super Metroid did years ago.

I agree. I bilieve that the game was great. It captured the atmosphere.. I really liked Samus "emotional" side. I would give the game a 9... It's not perfect but It's still awesome

My two cents are prob worth less than nothing, but I'll give 'em anyways.

I am, like many other a hardcore Metroid fan. I played them all, many many times. My favorite is Super Metroid and Prime 1. I didn't read any previews, or anything at all about Other M. My goal was to come to the table with a empty mind, without any oppinions.

This worked out pretty well. It took some hours, but eventually I started to like it. Sure, there are quite a few kinks to work out for a sequel, but I think Metroid may be on a good path here. Is it Super Metroid or Prime? Hell no! That doesn't mean it can't be good my it's own merits.

I take it for what it probably is: A step in a new direction. It won't always guarantee a perfect result, but at least they are trying. I'd give this game a 7 or 8 out of 10.

I don't know why people are complaining that it isn't like the other Metroid games. You do know that the Prime games aren't considered canon to the main series right? They are a side series. The Metroid Prime series is made by an American game company. My guess to the reason they created the Prime games in FPS is due to America's love for FPS games. However, this is pure conjecture and is by no means straight from Nintendo's mouth. If you are basing a true Metroid game based on the Prime series then perhaps you need to play the rest of the games. I'm not really a Metroid fan, I just know what my sister has told me and from what I have been researching. From what I've seen so far, it is a good game. I try not to base games or movies on the series, but judge them as an individual. Like my step-sister loves the book Ella Enchanted, but hated the movie for it's singing, ect. Me, I can accept the fact that both of them are not the same, but I can judge them on two separate levels. Same with games. I tried to judge Monster Hunter Tri the same way I judged the other Monster Hunter games, but as I looked at it as if it weren't part of a series, I was able to see past everything that they didn't do the same as the other games and look at it as something completely different. Just pretend it isn't part of the series and that it's a stand alone game while you are judging it. Remember, Metroid was not able to portray emotions very well when it first started out and now they are trying to compensate for many years worth of games, and they may have overdone it. They were trying to show a little of Samus's backstory and what she may have felt and had to deal with. Character development isn't necessarily a bad thing...if it had been done in Twilight the series might be considered tolerable...

other M is garbage the story's terrible, the graphics are terrible, and the game play's terrible and this is coming from someone who's favorite series is metroid.I beat the game and 90% time I played other M all I had to do was tap the control pad whenever I was in combat and I would never be hit by anything...ever.they took all the isolation out, they made the environments uninteresting to explore because they looked so bland and there was nothing to find and if there was it was obvious. the story was downright awful and it doesn't even let you skip it.the music had no tunes that stick with you either it's just all bland.

I'm guessing you only played the prime series... And reason why is b/c its just dumb. Do you shoot your door to open it? I think not sir.

He must have only played the Prime series because obviously those are the only games where you shoot to open them. HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I must conclude that YOU have only played the Prime games because if you'd played any of the 2D ones you'd know what is wrong with your logic.

I really don't like the invisible walls, or the fact that you cannot fall of a plateau. Metroid other M is nothing like the prime series and does not live up to the hype.

Since when did anyone say it was supposed to be like Prime?
Sure this game isn't like Prime, but Prime isn't like Super Metroid either.

QUOTE(gamefreak94 @ Aug 28 2010, 09:16 PM)
This is before the Prime series and right after(and when i say right after i mean right after) the original Metroid, you do know that right?

Wrong way round, the Prime series is RIGHT after the original Metroid, this is set between 3 and 4 (Super and Fusion).

I really wish people would just let go of their "It's nothing like ___ " and "There's none of ___" complaints. It's not supposed to be like other Metroid games.

This is the silliest complaint I've ever seen!

While you're at it, why not complain about not having to press "down" to go down warp pipes in Super Mario 64?

, the graphics are terrible,
Only quoted this as the other parts of this post were just opinion-

the graphics are terrible? What? Play it on a HDTV while using component cables and come back to me and say that again, for a Wii game, the graphics are brilliant.

I wouldn't say that at all though I don't agree they're some of the best on the machine. Some parts of it is very nice but some others just very bland.

Doesn't really matter however.

I replayed it and on the second go its probably little more enjoyable though the same gripes are there and there does seem to be way to many "find secret entrance then fight a boss" moments. Anyone who still hasn't played it should just treat it like its a brand new IP.

Of all the metroid games, this one has interested me the most.
I thought it was going to be boring and simplistic, but it's actually a pretty awesome game.

I far prefer it to the Prime series.

The story is pretty nice too. It's kinda cool to finally get some insight into who Samus actually is.
EDIT: Oh and the fact it's actually targeted at more "mature" audience is nice. The writing actually seems more advanced...instead of simplistic shit dumbed down enough for an infant to understand.

It's unfortunate they drew Samus as the equivalent of a whiny teenager. I hope they see this as a "never happened" in terms of Samus as a character and redraw her to be, you know, not a whiny little teenager with daddy issues.
