Where the hell'd you get the 4.2K partition?
Was it on the Animal Crossing: City Folk Korean version that you "acquired"?

I would test it out on my Korean Wii, but it has a D3-2 drive... (and I don't want to perform drive tranplant surgery on it today).

@Nintendo
It's been done. You've failed... again.
It took us 4 months, but then...
You generously gave us an officially signed 4.2K update partition....
Just sitting on Animal Crossing: City Folk Korean version...
Your newest Korean game was your own downfall...
You should've stuck with 4.1K... oh well... too bad...

Never underestimate us wii hacking peoples or pirates. Ever.

If I can pull the Kids away from the TV, I may install Indiana Pawns and brick my Korean wii, test this out. The 4.2k was on the Animal Crossing, just got my hands on it this morning.

Isn't there a working(!) method to fix 003 already? I'm speaking of filling the nand with savegames and a certain game that goes to data management if there's not enough space for its save? (to run bannerbomb obviously)

Doesn't work. When it tries to launch data management it fails with 003.

Thanks, i thought i heard otherwise.

I also think that patching AC:CF-K is easier than injecting the update partition.

No need to mess with wiiscrubber.

http://filetrip.net/f678-RegionFrii-1-21.html
This region patcher doesn't ned trucha.
Just open up the AC:CF-K iso and change the "4" to "0" if you have 4.2J, "1" if you have 4.2U, or "2" to 4.2E.
Thenb just change the first byte from "R" to "0" with a hex editor.

You might want to add this info to the guide mauifrog, that way you don't have to provide any links, just tell pople to find the AC:CF-K iso somewhere.

I am burning the region patched AC:CF-K iso now. Will see what happens. The only trouble is AC:CF-K iso is 4.4g, the update partition is 90mb. I doubt AC:CF-K iso will be very popular, and could be difficult for most people to get, even if they wanted to buy it.

Region patching the iso appears to work as well

Also found time to burn and test Mario Kart ntsc-4.2K, loads fine and displays update prompt.

4.2 has new region checking which checks the title id, the update partition has a title ID too, which for korean is .UPK.

No it has not worked. Two confirmed fails. Most likely do to the out of region, as stated in the above quote. Also possible that the 4.2k is not detected as an update to 4.2u/e/j, but I think it should be. Will try again next year with 4.3k, or wait for a new exploit, or perhaps a chip that can autoboot ssbb.

Still waiting for verification that the chips are not blocking updates, but I doubt it.

Dang...

I know why it won't work.

It's the enhanced region protection that 4.2 has, where it checks the tmd (I'm asuming the ID code, which in this case is .UPK, but sysmenu is U, so it spazzes when it sees the K) to check if it's the same region.

Modifying the tmd will not work as that requires trucha.

I'm assuming that Ninty would already have an updated revision of their repair/backup disc. Does anybody know where I could find one?

Does anybody know of any shops that are fixing error 003?
becuase there's a good chance they'll have one of these discs.

The first repair disk was not very useful, and it was leaked and they stubbed its ios making it useless. I don't think Nintendo is very interested in producing the type of disk we would want. I just don't think it likely that they would produce a disk that could change the region and system menu. They know, eventually it would leak, and they are not in the business of fixing wiis. But, don't let my pessimism stop you from trying to get your hands on if it does exist, but from what I have seen, Nintendo does not even bother to check bricked wiis for anything at the moment. They just part them and replace them.

What I want to know, is, with all the data gathered, common keys, private keys, and such, why can't we officially sign code? Why fakesign? The answer may be over my head, but I do wonder.

Other than the above, is it remotely possible that a chip could bypass the new region checks in the future, or was that all reliant on the lack encryption on the disk region code? Also, why the heck can a chip autoboot pal ssbb but not ntsc ssbb, and is there any remote possibility a chip could fix that?

Well, it is good to not have a bricked 003 wii. The crap part of the deal is that the majority of these 003 bricks where not used to run any homebrew or backups, they where just brought at a discount, many with fake sn# applied to them. The owners never knew the risks that the update could have, then just like that, brick.

We can't sign things for real since that would require having the private key, which only Nintendo has and they're not about to let THAT leak any time soon.

True, but how else is that other shop (mentioned on wiihacks) fixing error 003 in recovery mode?

And the one key we don't have is the RSA private key, which is used in signing official content, and this key never leaves the factory.

Nobody knows why SSBB USA don't autoboot. And I'm not sure why modchip companies haven't caught on about the 4.2 region lock.

True. Most 003'd wii's are bought or imported in countries that don't really have Wiis, and don't have homebrew on them. Not sure about fake serial numbers though.

That totally sux. But I had a feeling that all of this would not work. Nintendo really screwed over the people in Korea. Lucky for me I do not live there.

korean people are not affected AT ALL.

a Wii is so cheap in korea that it created a business to region switch them and resale them in USA/EUR and nintendo basicly pwned innocent people who bought a Wii from ebay or somewhere else without knowing it was region switched!
