wuld storyline be good?
In my opinion, yes, because I haven't played the originals in a long time (I did play Gold recently but I ended up selling it). Plus, there are some key things said that if you don't know, you can't continue without knowing. But you'd need to talk to Kazo and ask about helping out. It'd be nice to see, though, because each time Kazo releases an update, it's as simple as patching the ROM file again (you just patch over the already-patched ROM). It's so simple.
As for saving problems, make sure you have applied the freeze patch first. If you apply that, then all you have to do is keep patching it with each new version of Kazo's ROM and you've got the best version there is so far (unless of course you want it in Japanese, in which case, just put the freeze patch on and forget about Kazo's translation patches). This is the freeze patch I used and it's really good:

You have the option for a partial English patch, too. The ReadMe will explain all. But if you're after the English version, download Kazo's translation patch after patching it with that freeze patch, sticker your newly-patched ROM in the rom folder, hit the batch file and watch it work it's magic (note you can only do one ROM patch at a time because it produces patched.nds, so you have to rename it to do another ROM).
Finally, Kazo, could you please fix that little problem with the patcher? It's annoying for patching ROMs, because say I want to patch both Soul Silver and Heart Gold at the same time, well, I can't. Because it produces patched.nds, so then you have to rename it, and if you have more than one ROM in the rom folder, it'll just tell you that it can't copy or something. So it'd be nice if you could append a number or something e.g. if the first exists, append -2, then -3 (so, patched.nds, patched-2.nds, patched-3.nds). Even better, just using the original file name and appending -patched to the name would be helpful.
EDIT: Actually, Rudolph's freeze patch was better. It was the one where it didn't have an English translation or much of one. I don't have a link, but it should be on GBAtemp. It was the one with Patch.exe, and you just drag your clean, untouched .nds ROM onto it, it patches, then you can use Kazo's patch. So forget that other link, and go search for this patch (unfortunately, as I said, I don't have a link, and I can't be bothered searching all over GBAtemp again).
