I pirate because i feel I have spent enough money on nintendo games and hardware over the years (since nes days) whilst nintendo still neglects my part of the world (Europe) with their release dates (if released at all here).
With piracy I can play games that I otherwise wuld never play due to them never being released in EUrope.
So yeah, basically it comes to saving money whilst I got no regretful feelings at all.
Therefor and the fact that downloading is legal in my country and i got 99,999999% safety of pirating without it ever being noticed by nintendo or any other copyright protecting corparate.
I call the games I illegaly obtain just illegal copies to whomever asks about it since that way everybody knows what your talking about.

I don't call it pirating.... I call it borrowing without the intent of giving it back.

Because...
a) Australia gets everything last and I'm too impatient to wait.
b) Games here are AUD$100 and renting locally was $8 a day last time I checked.
c) I'm an unemployed 14 year old student
d) I don't have to yell at my sister any more for not putting games away.
e) I'm slack.
f) I have 8mbit ADSL that needs wasting. (I went a month with no illegal downloads and I only used around 12gb which was games from Steam)

That said, it feels great to go out and buy new games! Most things I download end up unfinished and become uninteresting after a fortnight. I've only just come to appreciate my older consoles for what they are and regret flogging most of my stuff on eBay for quick cash.

-Why do you pirate?
So I don't have to waste my money on mere curiosity

-Why do you call the game "Backups" when they are clearly pirated and not of your own creation?
I don't

-If you want to try a game, why don't you borrow it/rent it/watch videos on youtube instead of pirating it?
Again, I don't want to waste my money on mere curiosity.

-How do you justify ripping the game companies off?
Games cost over $100 here, so fuck them.

I do not think piracy is all bad. I think that intellectual property theft is not stealing. Not making money (Piracy)is not the same as losing money(theft). I just do not understand why you guys try to justify it. I do not have a modchip installed. I have a wiikey sitting on my dresser, but I never got around to installing it.

You guys say that you download games to make sure that it is good. This is reasonable. What is not reasonable is that you never buy the game. I have never met a pirate that used the chip to try games.

I only own a DS flash cart and I still buy games if I think they're worth it.

Why do you fool yourselves? Why do you hide behind a thin vale of legitamacy? If you would just admit that you have a modchip because you feel elite when you use it or you are too cheap to buy games or that you feel you are above paying for games, I would be less annoyed. I will list some popular excuses and holes in them:

I can't afford games.
If you can't afford games, how did you pay for the system/modchip/dvds/bandwidth required to be a pirate?

That's like asking someone who doesn't own a car how they can afford to catch the bus.

The games all suck.
So why do you keep downloading them? Sell you wii and move on.

I don't really see any point here.

Nintendo charges too much.
They have to make up for pirates and they have to pay the bills. Games cost millions to make and advertise. Support them by paying them.

Oh no they fucking don't Nintendo, and the industry in general is rolling in cash, are you a rep or something?

If I bought the game, I would not get my moneys worth out of it.
Then buy a PS2 and get some cheap games.

wtf?

I will admit that I used to pirate DS games. Why? I felt soooooooo cool when I bought it and saw no reason to pay for the games. Now I see games as entertainment that will stop being as high quality if I do not buy games.
If you only pirated because you thought it was cool then you really didn't spend much time thinking about it.

And a closing note:
Games are much less fun when you pirate them. You lose interest quickly. If you buy it, you are stuck with it and forced to play until the game becomes fun. I but many more of you would have liked SMG if you had purchased it.

All pirates are familiar with being spoiled for choice, and any that don't have ADHD don't find it to be much of an issue.

I own 8 wii games. I paid 50 USD for 6 of those 40USD for 1 and wii sports was included. I have 2 pirated wiiware wads. I have never purchased anything from the WSC.
I own 24 Wii games, I paid over $100 NZD for each of them, I have 50+ Wiiware/VC titles all legitimately purchased and 30 something DS games for around $100 each.
I'm a proud fuckin' pirate and I'm speaking more with my wallet than you do.

I have better things to spend money on and I dont play many games. Plus games are too expensive, all I want is about 1-3 hours of gaming each week so why should I spend hard earned money on it?

Can't say I really pirate Wii games, I only play Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and I own that. I just have a backup because I'm too lazy to update the Wiikey to play the original.
That's perfectly legit

Also, the answer to the question of "Why climb Mount Everest?" also applies here:
Because its there.

With the amount of shovelware that has flooded the Wii, I've found it almost necessary to weed out the shit from the keepers.

As many would blow this off, I always burn my downloads to an RW first and try them out. If I like them, then they go on the "to purchase in 30 days" list. Even if a large amount of releases come out in a short time, I wouldn't have time to play all of them within a 30 day span. Wish I did have that amount of free time...... but anyway, after I decide it's a keeper I burn off a nice DVD-R with a lightscribe label and put it in the folder. Then when I purchase the game it goes on the shelf nicely kept in it's wrapper.

I tote my system around and I think we all know what any game disc starts to look like after 6 months or so of usage. This keeps the originals safe and I keep the images on a portable HD so if I need to make another backup of it, I can.

I've never pirated any downloadable (wiiware) content because I feel they're cheap enough as is, and I am normally pretty picky what I get from there. MM9 is on the for sure list.. Wondering if it's going to be available soon tonight or at 6am...

Didn't read the last 5 pages, but has this response been given? I feel that this system gives all people the end results they want without permanent damage being done. I like the idea of keeping my games pristine so when I goto sell them, the person knows they're getting something taken care of. I'm on of those guys that has a few video game lines I like to collect, namely I've got every GameBoy ever made, from the original to the pocket to the micro, etc.

I pirate simply because the choice is there. If I can have a game I want for free and not pay 30-50 dollars for it, I will take that choice. I do not try to make excuses for my pirating activities. I know that pirating is illegal, I know that I am not showing my support do the developers, but really I don't care about that. Pirating games is FREE, buying them is not. I have to pay 60 bucks each time I want to buy a PS3 or XBOX 360 game, I am not going to spend any more money on all the other consoles I can pirate in (which are the PSP, WII, DS, GBA and PC). Is it unethical? Yes. Is it illegal? Yes. Is it convenient? Very much yes.

-Why do you pirate?

Because I can get games that I don't have to pay for. I waste enough money on games as it is that could and should be better spent on other things. I also realize that games are a luxury item that it doesn't give me the right to download them but to be honest I really don't care.

I don't.

-If you want to try a game, why don't you borrow it/rent it/watch videos on youtube instead of pirating it?

Because I can pirate it instead.

-How do you justify ripping the game companies off?

I don't justify it, I simply don't care.

Ill give you the best reason and i have a couple

i have been gaming since the nes days and i can tell you that once you hack a device and take away the value of game it takes away from the game

it sounds like BS but you are much more pushed to finish a game you own then a game u downloaded

second now a days big big big companies spend all of their fortune on one game if that one game (take gta 4 that costs well over hundreds of millions to develop) is pirated to hell you can see direct damage because that company wont exist anymore and it happens right away

its not so crazy to ask people to spend money on a decent library for their systems ! the only reason i pirate is because i live in the most backwards place on earth and game are the most expensive in the hole world here no joke(in Israel)

a ps3 game costs around 150 us dollars!!! and i still have a 12 game library (for the ps3 alone)

so the conclusion is most of the semi honest people that are pirating are teens that have no money and that's ok because they are future consumers but adults have no excuse and their killing the same industry they love!

well last time i checked Israel is not a third world country but... trust me you would rather play with a rubber ball then pay the prices asked for in this hell hole

and didint i say i have an extensive bought library i only used to pirate a lot when i was younger and i could not send for games from other country's for a normal price and new games cost and arm and a leg hear if anything i mentioned that now a days piracy must stop or the companies we love wont be around anymore because costs are becoming to high

I pirate because I try games, and then decide if they're worth supporting. I don't like wasting money, and I don't like supporting crappy games.

I don't call them backups.

borrow it - I do sometimes, but stuff is usually on the internet before anyone I know in person has it, so I'll just "borrow" it from my internet "friends"
rent it - not going to pay money for something unless I know it's good. Besides why would I rent it and put something in my console that I have no idea who has touched it or what they have done to it.
watch videos - not the same as playing.

How do game companies justify trying to rip me off by expecting me to pay for something and only THEN find out it's bad. Anyway it's not ripping them off unless I was going to buy it instead; if and only if I find a game is good I will buy it, so pirating actually brings them MORE sales from me, because it lets me play lots of games I might otherwise never play and find out they are good.
