Hi everyone, I'm new to the scene and having a bit of trouble. I just recently followed the excellent 3DS Hacks Guide and got through all the many steps, no problem. My main reason to get this done was to play Japanese region games on my US New 3DS XL, and to take advantage of the English fan translations of the Great Ace Attorney and Rocket Slime 3, both of which I own as physical Japanese copies.

To my disappointment running Japanese games seems to be hit or miss for me, and I couldn't find much info on exactly what was going wrong. I'm really hoping I've overlooked something obvious here. The system will recognize the game when it's inserted, but trying to start the game will often result in a ErrDisp error screen, code 15. Randomly it will go through, but will then crash at a certain point with a different ErrDisp, like 39 or 40. The worst offenders seem to be Great Ace Attorney and Rocket Slime 3 while others like Rhythm Heaven Megamix, Guild 01, and the original MH4 will continue to play as long as they start up. I haven't even tried patching games because I think it'd be a waste of time until I figure this out. The region free aspect of Luma3DS seems to be a given so I can't find much info about why this is happening. These are all actual Japanese carts being played on my US system, nothing is digital off the SD card. Any help would be appreciated, please let me know what you may need from me to troubleshoot this.
Try with Luma Locale Switcher (or with Luma Locale Region Autosetter)

Thank you, I'll go through these and report back.

Did I miss something, or is this additional setup necessary for everyone to get around the region locking for most games? It seems complicated.

You also must activate the "Enable game patching" option on Luma settings (to enter to that settings, press SELECT button while console turn on).

PS: Locale emulation is explained here:
Taken from Luma's Wiki said:
Locale Emulation: While Luma3DS allows games from all regions to be played via region-free patches, some games will freeze or crash if outside their expected region/locale. To fix this, Luma3DS allows emulating your locale.
  • To use this feature, create a locale.txt inside /luma/titles/TID/ file. Edit this text file to include the region (JPN, USA, EUR, AUS, CHN, KOR, TWN) and language (JP, EN, FR, DE, IT, ES, ZH, KO, NL, PT, RU, TW) separated by space. For example, to play Pokémon Y in the Japanese language and region, I would place a locale.txt in /luma/titles/0004000000055E00 containing the contents JPN JP
  • Note: This level of locale emulation is not sufficient for some games; to fix this, improved locale emulation was introduced in Luma3DS v8.0, allowing you to specify a country and state ID (2-digit hex integer), i.e. a European locale.txt played in French would have the contents EUR FR FR 01. This extended locale emulation is not necessary in most cases.
Luma Locale Switcher creates the locale.txt file automatically. You just must choose the corresponding game, and the region and language to emulate

Hi! I am trying to use online features but I can't without updating my System Version. I am wondering if it is safe to update while on CFW Luma3DS v.10.0.1? System Version is 11.13.0-45E.

Thanks!

Theres never been a stealth update to date with nintendo. It outright asks you to click on update. If he did go to latest and is getting a Arm error of PM. Then he needs the latest boot.firm version on the sd root.

I've managed to pinpoint the issue to a combination of outdated luma on NAND and an (micro)SD card which was being wonky (not read correctly, thus defaulting to boot.firm on nand which was still outdated and therefor threw the errors)

Hello, I have an O2DS and I had it on 11.13 I believe and I had Arm 11 Errors, I decided to update and heard about a fix for 11.14 and applied it.

So there are no issues booting up the system, but sometimes while playing games, or just being on the homescreen, I will seemingly randomly get the error.

It's been bugging me for a while so any help would be appreciated. So I can play it a bit more often. :)

Try with this post says (most of the time, it's usually a problem with the console SD card)

Hello, I have an issue trying to play Resident Evil Revelations in English on my JAP n3DS XL.
I followed the guide to region change the 3DS to EUR, installed the EUR CIA of Resident Evil and tried using Luma3DS locale emulation as well as Luma Locale Switcher but none methods work.
It's strange that the EUR CIA of Resident Evil comes with the Japanese language? Why would the game recognize the system as JAP after having done the region change?
Thanks in advance.

Edit: I reinstalled using a clean .cia of the game and now everything runs smoothly.

1. if you mean on, you need to put luma on the ctrnand. godmode can do this for you with one of the scripts.
2. godmode9 goes in the payloads folder iirc. then, I think it's hold select at boot up.
3. there used to be a way to download games and stuff directly to the system, but Nintendo put a stop to that. if it's even possible to try now, you'd be banned instantly. you'll have to search the internet for content.

for all of you newcomers don't ask how/where to download roms that is the #1 quickest way to get banned btw if you wish to use bootntr on 11.14 you need to use Nanquita's fork of luma here https://github.com/Nanquitas/Luma3DS/releases
then you put the 11.14 supported bootntr selector on your SD card from here https://github.com/Nanquitas/BootNTR/releases remember mode 3 is only needed for games like sun/moon on old 3ds/2ds only!!!(which requires a soft reboot to free up memory) if you have a n3ds/2ds (the one with the second pair of L+R (commonly known as zL/zR and the grey C stick) you don't need mode 3

that's actually what I'm using. I used to have issues getting bootntr selector to run on normal luma (sometimes it would crash the system), not just the latest version. however, the fork of it works perfectly. I left the ctrnand as the normal luma, just the sd card one is using the fork. :D
