Can you run 3ds games 'overclocked' in n3ds speeds and insert 60fps patches/cheats for 3ds games? that's the one thing missing for me and seems like it's impossible because there's no way to get these in gateway mode

Should be possible via ntrcfw, I haven't tried it, I'll have to check it out, though if I really want to overclock I'd just install it as a cia via luma, otherwise it's all homebrew via cia, and games via gateway

If you have b9s, update via system settings
Not sure that I have b9s. Isn't there supposed to be a Folder in the Root of the MicroSD saying b9s? I know GodMode9 is in there.

Edit - OK......I think B9S is in there. Hold Select from Powerup, and on the Bottom of the Bottom Screen, it says "Booted from SD via B9S

Overclocking, yes it's possible, cheats, definitely yes, patching games, yes you technically could play with patches, you'll have to go about it old school though by patching the games themselves and loading the game up using the Gateway flashcart or installing the patched game digitally.

Didn't need to use SysUpdater at all. Just update to 11.14.0 and you'll be fine.
The original advice is for people that use GW red flashcard + B9S and wants to have a frankenfirmwared 11.14 EmuNand version going on with GW. Obvioulsy, according to the context of this specific thread topic.

cool i didn't check whether it isn't needed, usually the system update will update everything, so it'll black screen

sysupdater isn't needed if you already have the 11.13 patched emunand and update to 11.14

1) both using the provided fastboot3ds and building my own from the latest source, I CANNOT launch GW from fastboot3ds. Black screen every time. I can boot using luma->bootctr9->gateway.firm.

2) If you update past the latest firmware supported by *hax ropbin, you can no longer use the homebrew launcher under GW. Why hasn't a direct launcher been made specifically for b9s and/or fastboot3ds? heck, I'd even take a rosalina (under/for GW) launcher at this point.

interesting, because the fast boot method initially worked for me, using fastboot3ds to boot the gateway.firm directly, then one day i got the same issue as you, just a black screen, using fastboot and bootctr9 works, and thats what i use now

the gateway.firm is the gateway a9lh payload, that was converted to a .firm, this allows you to boot the launcher.dat

iirc gateway launcher is encrypted, so one has to first figure out how to decrypt and then disassemble that code and then one could simply reverse engineer it, then one can have native 11.14 support with out frakenand
