Just spent most of the week working on my new theme for the next release later in the month. I put a shitload of work into this.

~ First-off, I made that boring F-key menu at the bottom into a sort of floating icon dock. And I made each one scale independently of the others, so no matter the resolution of the menu, they stay put and won't overcrowd or overlap each other. They may not look exactly centered at certain resolutions.
~ Next, I added icons for every single .ISO, .WIM, and .EFI file on the drive. (HUGE shout-out to @momosala for helping me with some of these!)
~ I also made the icons in the Main Menu squared-off, but with rounded corners. Gives it a more polished and modern look.
~ I moved the USB stick to the top to act as the new title bar and as the UEFI/BIOS boot-mode indicator. It's much easier to see and read now.
~ I moved the MediCat USB versioning information to the bottom left corner, also taking scaling into consideration so it won't get cut-off in 640x480 mode.
~ And lastly, a new wallpaper. I couldn't make all these changes, and NOT make a new bad-ass wallpaper.

In closing, these changes will be coming much later in the month, when enough software changes warrant a new release. Something to look forward to. ;)

Whenever I disable my antivirus application, Windows Defender automatically becomes active.
Can someone please explain to me how I can disable Windows Defender to create a MediCat USB stick?
OS: Windows 10

Wow, it's really an honor having you here Longpanda. Welcome to GBAtemp!

A vtoyret.png icon is a great idea! How would I set that into the theme? Would it be some kind of back arrow?

Open your Start Menu, type "virus", and hit enter to open the "Virus & Threat Protection" settings. Click on "Manage settings" and disable "real-time protection". Then you can proceed with MediCat USB creation without issue.

vtoyret is a builtin class specially for the menu [../]. No need to define in ventoy.json by menu_class plugin.
So you just need to put a vtoyret.png file in the theme/icon directory just like windows.png/ubuntu.png ...
As for the content of vtoyret.png, back arrow or something as you like.

So I finally made my USB and tried it out with QEMU. It's awesome and I wanted to say thank you. Only odd thing I noticed is at the bottom left it says "unofficial ventoy" and was wondering why? I did mod it to my liking but was just curious about this. Thanks in advance!

If you messed around with the partitions, it will say that.

Is it necessary to install the update 20.10 in the ISO of the medicat USB 20.10.1?
Not really. But the 20.11 update is coming shortly.

Very cool, I will add one. Thanks for the tip!

MediCat v20.11 has just been released!
(Torrent only for now, file hosts will be updated later in the day.)

Many changes in this release, most-notably how you create the bootable USB.

It's very simple:

1.) Create a blank USB with Ventoy (Ventoy2Disk).
2.) Format it to NTFS.
3.) Extract the files from the zipped .001 file to the USB using 7-zip, or whatever archiver you have that will get the job done.
4.) ????
5.) Profit!

And best of all, NO MORE PARTITION RESIZING!!! :grog:

That's right kids, I wanted to give you a much easier time creating your USB. No more ImageUSB, Rufus, Etcher, or using dd commands in a Terminal. Just simple 7-zip extraction after Ventoy creation. I created an all-new tutorial for you to follow. It's made for Windows users, but you can just use your favorite archive extractors in Mac OS and Linux and still follow along. The tutorial is in a spoiler on the first post where the old tutorial used to be, right above the Screenshots section. 7-zip Portable v20.02 alpha and Ventoy2Disk (v1.0.29) are included in the torrent, and will be available on the file hosts too when I update those. This also means that updating Ventoy won't be broken anymore either, you can just use the official Ventoy2Disk application like normal. :toot:

I'm exhausted, so I'm taking some much-needed time off from MediCat USB. :gba:
(But expect another version around Christmas time.)

I have a confession to make... I pounded out this secret project in just one night. But it's been on my mind for YEARS. I finally got time to sit down and make it happen. So here's a sneak-preview of the secret project:

MediCat: Second Opinion.

It's another bootable USB stick based on Ventoy, but it's sole purpose is virus and malware removal. I used the newest bootable CDs I could find, and some like Sophos I had to generate... and my Malwarebytes Bootable is a no-brainer to put on it. (Still has persistent updatable virus definitions too!) Now, unlike MediCat USB, MediCat: Second Opinion will mostly utilize BIOS mode, because most of the antivirus discs don't support UEFI boot mode. So you'll wanna make sure it's in BIOS boot mode for the discs to boot up. And even if they do start to boot, your mileage may vary. I had to remove F-Secure, Panda SafeDisk, Panda Cloud Cleaner, Trinity Rescue Kit, Windows Defender Offline x64,and BitDefender, simply because they're all too old to support my modern hardware and won't finish the boot process. They all hang with kernel panics or APCI errors. This will be Second Opinion's only release, as I don't intend on supporting it further. So it won't get anymore updates after this release, but once I make a release post for it, Feel free to add anything you see fit to it.

Here are the screenshots:

I haven't slept, so after I sleep I will be uploading it.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
