The CIAs get installed in the Nintendo 3DS folder of my SD card, but none of the file names in there use the friendly 3DS title names.
That's why you need to use the Data Management screen to manage your installed titles. Once it get installed to the /Nintendo 3DS/ folder on your SD card, it's encrypted.

A friend wants to buy a (cheap) O3DSXL and found a damaged console. The usual "does not turn on reliably" probably because of worn ribbon cable to the upper screen assembly.

Now the seller says: "If it turns on the image is mirrored."

Anybody heard of this before? Any known hardware and/or software fault that could cause this? Does it make sense to buy such a thing an try replacing the upper screen?

Most people say it is a damaged ribbon cable and it happens a lot with the 3ds top screen. So you could take the gamble to buy it. But there is always a chance that there is more wrong.

N00b poster, long time reader.

I have Wii and Wiiu modding experience. I got my son a 3ds and it came preinstalled with luma3ds from the pawn shop. The sd card has files already. I want to make sure luma is up to date and get homebrew working. How do I go about this? My main sysmenu is 11.6.0-39u. Sorry for the dumb questions just don't want to brick and new to this system. I went to download play and held r trigger select and down dpad and I am running luma3ds v8.1.1

Edit: I was looking at the 3ds hack guide but am unsure of really to start since there some already running

What firmware is the New 2DS XL on out of the box? Gonna see about getting an orange-white N2DS XL, and I wanna see what the exploits are.

Seedminer is compatible with the latest version and doesn't require anything more than an SD card, so the system version of your 2DS doesn't really matter.

  1. Download the latest Luma3DS
  2. Put the boot.firm and boot.3dsx onto the root of your SD card
  3. Put the SD back into the 3DS
  4. Boot the system while holding Select and verify at the top of the config settings that you're running Luma3DS 10.1.3.
  5. If you're running Luma3DS 10.1.3 and it boots properly, follow this guide to update everything else, including your system. Follow the entire guide.
If you don't already have one, you should also create a NAND backup suing GodMode9 and store it somewhere safe.

When i use 3dnus to download the firmware files sysupdater get stuck at downgrading the system settings and then crashes. After that i end up with franken firmware. Any ideas? P.s. i can't find ctrtransfer so i used sysupdater and i am not asking for ctrtransfer. That is against the rules. I want to downgrade to 4.x.

Unless you're doing experiments (and accept/know the risks) you should not downgrade a 2|3DS. Downgrading is dangerous and essentially useless and limits the possibilities (newer games will not work).

Yes, I know, people who life in glass houses should not throw stones. I stopped counting how many times I softbricked my test device with that sort of experiments. Two times this morning (deleted everything from CTRNAND and the second time I overwrote CTRNAND with garbage data).

Working sets of old firmware files can be found on the internet (obviously may not link here). I don't know if some NUS downloader is able to download all needed packages and how. But: Be smart, have a up-to-date NAND image ready and use a verified SD.

Good luck and have fun!

Yes i also have softbricked it a lot. But i still can't find ctrtransfer. Is it a good idea to use safesysupdater and then try to delete home menu ext data? Ctrtransfer works out of the box but "that site" for firmware files is down. Only cias for games.

I tought maybe search something on the internet and i came to this site: https://github.com/profi200/sysUpdater/releases
There is a build from 22 days ago, there are some fixes and it now works with Luma/rosalina.
It is version 0.4.3b

Why are you wanting to downgrade to 4.x? This is not recommended, and many games won't work with it.
