The games will appear on the original console, until you visit the eShop or do anything online - then they'll disappear. Nintendo servers will tell the console that it doesn't own those games and they'll no longer appear on the home menu. You can get them back by using tikShop or tikDevil or similar - which will install all the tickets and allow them to be played. They'll basically be like pirated games from that point forward. You can't register them with another NNID.

Thank you again. I'll do some research on tikShop / tikDevil. Should I install those resources before making the NNID transfer?

I've been using Gateway 3DS for quite a long time, and played Pokemon X and Omega Ruby (cartridges) using EmuNAND. Recently I've moved to Luma3DS (did everything according to the Hacks Guide) and now I get a following message when starting either of these games:
"The saved game is corrupted.
Refer to the electronic manual for details."
Other games are working fine.
Can I restore my save files and continue playing them?

I think it has something to do with updating, and there being a different kind of save file encryption in the older firmware compared to the newer one. If you have a NAND backup from before you updated while following the guide, I would try restoring it (after making a backup of your current version so you can go back easily) and seeing if that helps. I remember there being specific advice for this sort of situation at the time when it was more common but I don't recall what that was just at the moment sorry.

Hello, I'm kind of a frustrated-n00b at this point. I'll try to keep things schematic here.

I would like to play Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker in English on my JP o3DS unit.
The game's going to boot up in Japanese, no matter what.

Context:

JP o3DS, latest version of luma.

Captain Toad's a EUR .cia .

My attempts, so far:

1) created a locale.txt ( EUR EN ) and moved it to luma/titles/00040000001CB200 = no luck ;

2) created a locale.txt ( EUR EN ) and moved it to luma/locales = no luck ;

3) installed LumaLocaleSwitcher, made sure the " enable game patching " feature was correctly enabled, set region to EUR and language to ENG for the game = still no luck ;

I'm running out of ideas: am I missing something? I could definitely use some help.

Thank you so much for your time and patience guys. Love ya.

You only need to have CFW of any kind, no need to update anything

I don't know much about this stuff, but something to try while you are waiting for a better answer - maybe try making an emuNAND and changing the region to US, and install a US version there.

Thank you so much Quantumcat!

Auto-quoting myself just to say that I've found a solution to the problem.
It was all stated here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/luma-locale-switcher-problem.510779/#post-8137674

So, to the whole Luma users looking to play games in English on a JP console, I'm gonna illustrate what, eventually in my case, did the trick:

1) install LumaLocaleSwitcher ;

2) boot-up your console while holding SELECT ;

3) make sure the " enable game patching " option is selected, then just press START to save ;

4) start LumaLocaleSwitcher, select " Choose Locales Directory " and change the path to the second one down, labeled " /luma/titles/%s/locale.txt " .

5) Et voilà, enjoy.

Hope this will work out for everyone facing the issue.

I have a new (refurb) N3dsXL and a working r4i 3ds Plus flashcart.

Is there a way to get a completely clean NAND backup before following the regular guide to install CFW?

No. Why should you do this before installing cfw? Follow the steps and create the backup afterwards.

I bought the refurb directly from Nintendo. Everything seems fine with it, but if any hardware faults crop up once I start using it heavily, I have to return it directly to them to get a refund or replacement. If it was from a retailer, I'd just uninstall CFW and return it as defective. But uninstalling CFW still leaves traces, doesn't it?

I think it was here on GBATemp where there's a thread about someone getting "caught" by Nintendo on a return even after uninstalling.

And even if...what should happen in this regard? At the very most, they'll send the thing back to you, that's all.

I used my cfw'd 3ds heavily. The 3ds will not go up in flames or explode. The worst thing that could happen is that the memory card eventually fucks up. Sure, the built-in components too. But I think that needs time. Of course, it always depends on how you deal with the hardware as well. If the thing flies out of your hand at least once a day because you have shit in your hands, of course you do not have much of it. I still have a greasy 3DS here. OLD model of course. And it still works since day one.

At no point did I say that I think CFW is going to cause hardware problems. I said it's a refurb unit. Refurb units might have had hardware issues that resulted in them being refurbs. Hardware issues may not show up right away. Hardware issues may show up as the unit is used more. Maybe the battery doesn't hold a charge well. Maybe the screen starts flickering. Maybe nothing happens and the hardware is perfect. I was just wanting to cover all my bases.

But hey, thanks for answering my original question about making a clean NAND backup. Since it isn't possible, then it really doesn't matter why I wanted to do it in the first place.
