Grandia HD Collection launches on the Switch next week, PC release to follow later

GungHo Online Entertainment will be releasing the Grandia HD Collection on the Nintendo Switch next week, bringing two classic Sega Saturn-era JRPGs to a modern platform. Both titles, Grandia I and II, will feature updated graphics, a revised UI, both Japanese and English audio, and brand-new French and German translations. The Nintendo Switch version will release on August 16th, while the Steam version will follow at a later date. The PC port of the Grandia HD Collection will see the currently-released Grandia II: Anniversary Edition renamed to Grandia II: HD, with both games having Steam cards, widescreen support, keyboard and mouse mapping, and all the aforementioned improvements that the Switch version will have as well.

it is rather strange that the game is not yet present on the eshop considering how close to release this is. is there a price that I've missed? $40 or less I'm thinking.

Just the first two games? Aren't there at least four games in this series, none of which made it to the 7th generation of consoles AFAIK?

The rights to that game is a mess, and would be a nightmare to publish it. Who knows if the source code is around. PCSX2 is the best way to play it right now, full HD, nearly perfectly emulated.

Oh...

...the fuck is that about?

What's wrong with playing it on PCSX2? It runs perfectly now, the graphical issues are gone in the most recent builds, perfect 60 fps.

Why the fuck does Squarenix have the rights to the third game in the series?

They published it. Like Gungho published the first 2 games. Either Gungho passed on it, or Enix offered them more money.

Game developers don't normally have enough money to fund development of their games, so they get cash from publishers in return for certain rights. The publishers take the majority of the risk that the game won't sell, so they need to make a decent profit from the ones that do to cover the ones that don't.

Without publishers doing that, then pretty much no games would ever have been made.

Hm I am really not sure how I feel about this.
I played the original game on pc in 2002 and I was really really excited about Grandia 2 getting a HD release. After buying it felt really cheap for beeing an "anniversary" edition. It wasn't polished at all!
I mailed the developer multiple times about issues with resolution, z-buffer issues, massive memory leak issues (e.g. game crashes after 1hr max. and cutscenes with flying characters all over and game crashing after that)
better controller support and finally fixing game breaking bugs that exist in the original (e.g. the Millenia zap bug) and what happened?
Nothing! This developer is incompetent as hell. They just got it running, sold it and thats it. Anniversary edition my ***. I had a really hard time enjoying this masterpiece of crap. It ruined my experience and I loved the game sooo much.
Because of those issues I had to play through ryudos hometown sequences 5 or 6 times to get through it without crashing and you can't save there for a long period of time!

Have fun switch players!

Sorry but I'll pass on and play it on an emulator in hd.

Grandia 2 is a instant buy!!
TBH I remember the battle system being really nice and dynamic.
But was the game as a whole so good?
I sure enjoyed it back in the day, but I don't remember much about the game other than that.
I would say, other than the battle system, it didn't leave much of a lasting impression for me. I just can't remember.
