Would changing my current gpu to a GTX 960 bump the framerate to at least 25-30 or is the cpu too much of a bottleneck in this case?
At the moment I run botw at 15-20 fps on the outside areas and 30 fps inside shrines.

My current PC:

FX-6300 @4,0 (cant go further due to the motherboard)
8gb 1600mhz
R9 280

I really dont like linux...
Besides, as far as i know, the gains from running it on wine does not make it as good as nvidia on windows

also the ram is an issue, i sadly think it would not make much difference
5-10 fps is a huge difference for someone who is a playing at 18~ fps
i could get more ram too, i'll resell it in a few months when i upgrade my pc anyway and considering i'll buy it on aliexpress and sell it here on brazil i might even make a profit lol

Cemu has always favored nVidia GPUs, most emulators do, because of better drivers . We'll see if that changes after the Vulkan renderer gets released for it, but I'm honestly not holding my breath. Plus a GTX 960 is arguably a better card than a R9 290. So yeah, you should see a decent improvement on it, just don't go higher than 1920x1080. I'd definitely set up a page file, too, unless you can get another 8GB of RAM in it.

Aliexpress is a huge roll of the dice for a GPU, good luck

@ native resolution my i3-4130 (2core 4 threads) at 3.4ghz and a 1060 (6gb) run BOTW at 35-30 fps (with some low spikes to the 22fps) using single core recompiler.

i "can" go to double recompiler, but i dont like my CPU stayng at 99% usage at all time, and get similar at 1920.

and for RAM its iffy.

when you start the game up it'll use 8(ish) GB of ram..but after 20 or so min it drops down to around 3gb of ram.

Vulkan support IS coming to CEMU, but no set date exactly. (and it may help amd cpu's though iirc dev stated dont expect a big increase)

BTW @OP have you tried using double or triple recompilation? should benefit a 6core system.

Is it overclocked? I have no trouble running it at locked 30fps on an FX-6300 overclocked to 4.4GHz. And a GTX 1060, but a 960 shouldn't have trouble either.

I don't know how much RAM is used when using an AMD GPU, but for Nvidia you will want to get another 8GB, since cemu by itself uses around 7-8GB when playing BotW for me.

yes, but i cant go above 4ghz without hitting the thermal throttling
i decided not to buy the gtx 960, i'll just keep saving money and just get a new pc in a month or two

Yeah, that's probably for the best, you could add a cheap air cooler to overclock it if your motherboard can handle it, but it's honestly not worth throwing more money at it at this point.
