Nintendo claims that it has "nothing new to announce" in regards to first-party 3DS games

The end might just be nigh for the little handheld. Around this time last year, Nintendo promised investors that they would continue to support the Nintendo 3DS, with ports such as Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, Mario & Luig: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser JR's Journey, and Luigi's Mansion, alongside a new game in the form of WarioWare Gold. Now that fiscal year 2018 has come and gone, it's time to look towards the future; one that doesn't seem to focus the the small system. In the latest investor briefing, the only mention of the 3DS was comparing the Nintendo Switch to its sales numbers.

Company analysts forecast that around 1 million systems will still be shifted throughout 2019, though there is no word on any further first party releases. If you still haven't upgraded to the Nintendo Switch, you'll still have an upcoming title at least, in the form of Atlus' Persona Q2. Currently, over 75 million 3DS systems have been sold, with 378 million games for it, in the eight years that it's been on the market.

good it should have died years ago when the switch was 1st released. the switch IS it's replacement. maybe now we'll get more games on the switch instead of this fucking thing stealing them (metroid)
I hate the whole 'New system is out just forget supporting the older one" I see a lot of people complain about new games being released on 3DS instead of Switch. Im happy Nintendo is still supporting the 3DS 2 years after the switch launch because there is still money to be made, people still play it and it shows Nintendo cares about people still on last gen hardware.

Well yeah, with a few games still to be released this is it. The 2DS/3DS will be probably dead next year. Maybe we will get a last 2DS/3DS Christmas promo before that.

What on earth are you on about pretty much every system gets no new games after it has been out for 5 or so years the 3ds is now over 8 years old and has had support for two years after the Switch came out. I can only think of only one other system that has had first party support for that long.

Make that like four systems. Gameboy, Sega Genesis, Playstation and Playstation 2.

problem is 3ds is not last gen is like very old gen by now.Sure they are the last portable gen but the change from 3ds to switch its so massive that makes it look bad.

the entire point for nintendo portable systems was so people could play games anywhere and not be tied to the tv, with the switch release you can now do both so there is no reason to be making games on a system with such lows specs when you got a newer highers specs one that can do it, imagine how metroid samus returns would have looked like on the switch if they didnt went with 3ds only.

most recent 3ds games dont even do 3d anymore they are all 2d, so they try and take the most of the 3ds very low specs by todays standards so the entire point of the 3ds for afew years was being portable which it lost when switch came out.

My Switch is gathering dust (and it's hacked, 6.2.0 with Atmosphere 0.8.2), while my New 3DS XL (which is also hacked, Luma 9.1) has been getting so much love every night.

Did you guys know that there's _hardware_ support for DS and GBA games on the 3DS? As in, it has dedicated CPUs for running those types of games. Not to mention the ~3x battery life compared to a Switch. And the 3D effect is really nice in a lot of the games that I've played. There's really nothing quite like it on the market. The DS library alone is chuck full of JRPGs and good puzzle games and platformers.

with the rumors of a Switch Lite brewing, i don't really doubt the 3DS is dead at all at this point. Wouldn't be surprised if they dropped support for it by 2020's FY. Nonetheless, it really lived a good life, 8 years on the market and selling well for such an old device.

every switch nintendo game looks better than a 3ds game so no it wouldnt look the same lol

Look at just about any 3DS run through Citra at 720p/1080p. Compare the results to what you see on a Switch. Not entirely, but for the most part, that's what I'd expect if they'd release Metroid: Samus Returns on Switch.

Is it surprising really?

Nintendo has always done this, a new console / handheld came out and the previous thing is dead.
This is not sony that actually keeps their word when they say they support a platform after a new release.

Well Nintendo has to have a way to keep investors happy or Nintendo will start dying. It'll be a very slow but painful death. And its funny that you say this. Its like Sony is worse than Nintendo when Nintendo is just as bad with this.
