Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human, and Beyond: Two Souls are being ported to PC

D2HoH2NUcAArHJH.jpg

Quantic Dream is a developer known for its narrative-driven story games, such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and most recently, Detroit: Become Human. These games are also known for being exclusive to the PlayStation platform, which is why it might be a bit of a shock to learn that all three games will be headed to PC. Epic Games has secured the titles as exclusive to their Epic Games Store, following an announcement at GDC 2019 including other upcoming exclusives, such as Remedy's Control, Phoenix Point, and The Outer Worlds. All three games will launch later this year, with specific release dates to be revealed in the future.

David Cage and I have planned the next evolution of Quantic Dream very carefully. The move to PC constitutes our studio’s first effort to develop non PlayStation exclusive games in over 13 years, but also an opportunity to gradually engage the team on multiple projects at the same time. The most important evolution for Quantic Dream, however, is that we are no longer a developer working with a publisher. Starting with the PC versions of Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human, we will be self-publishing all our titles.

... Or they could just go back to installing the games from a disc and not a dedicated store front? It's not all about "muh store". If EPIC didn't have such a terrible introduction to the digital storefront this wouldn't be an issue, now would it? They've got a lot of work to do before I'll even attempt to consider installing that trashware again.

Wait, you want discs now? Physical media that once destroyed for any reason, is unusable? I don't even know a single person that still actually has a disc drive on their computer, prebuilt or otherwise.

Also, a terrible introduction? Were you not there when Steam first launched? It was horrible.

Comparing a multi-billion dollar tech giant to a company who is just now starting a platform is stupid and you know it. While we're at it, let's just switch to Windows 95 and bitch that it doesn't have the same features as Windows 10.

Yay, I'm gonna go right now and wishlist them on Stea...

What. The. Fuck. These developers are idiots. Now we know why Epic thinks customers don't matter and publishers will win the platform wars. All they're gonna get for their trouble is a lot more cries of "YAAARRR" coming from the distance. I would've been happy to support The Outer Worlds if Obsidian hadn't pulled this shit.

Curiously, Obsidian was still making edits to the Steam page for the game only a few days prior to it being announced as an Epic exclusive. I'm going to say this isn't Obsidian's fault at all, and we shouldn't jump the gun on directing blame. This could easily be another Metro situation where it was the publisher choice, not the dev's.

I don't know, I think it's anti-consumer to have it on one store and nowhere else. Epic store is just..ugh.

Ah, for some reason I thought they were self-publishing this one. I'm definitely still willing to buy the game once the exclusivity contract ends, but the result in the short-term is the same: I'd rather pirate than support anti-consumer practices. This multi-launcher nonsense is starting to get as bad as the fracturing between online TV show streaming services, and ultimately it will be the content creators who emerge as the biggest losers.

Assuming the exclusivity BS ends, I'll consider it, but if not, well, people are just gonna have to pirate it out of spite.

EPIC GAMES STORE

We all know how it will be going, Epic Games will make a bit of sales but then when devs notice they can make way more on Steam, they'll switch. For now, the games will be more downloaded than bought legally, but after they port it, people will buy theses games.

Why not using the Epic Games Store?
  • anti-costumer company, they have a shitty client service, no warrantys of refunds
  • No features, only the store and DRMs, no chat, no VR-exclusive games, no TV mode, no Music Player, no Internet Browser, no good friends system,no integration into games...
  • Not availlable on Linux
  • People will just pirate exclusives until they get ported
  • A lot of people don't want to use it
  • untrustworthy company (seems redundant but after the leaks, you're not too sure...)
  • Devs will loose money in this store (since a lot less people will buy the games)
  • Made by the same company who brought you Fortnite: A good game at first but polluted by his community and became shitty with each in-app purchases, skins...
  • Epic Games is becoming the new EA.

However, competion is good, it makes Steam wake-up and lower their prices. Plus, Epic Games made Unreal Engine and Unreal Tournament so they proved they can make good things.

I would recommend some stores like Discord, Steam or GOG for your PC games.
Agree with most of that except the fortnite bit one. That's an entirely subjective opinion which do not speak for the majority.
