Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human, and Beyond: Two Souls are being ported to PC

D2HoH2NUcAArHJH.jpg

Quantic Dream is a developer known for its narrative-driven story games, such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and most recently, Detroit: Become Human. These games are also known for being exclusive to the PlayStation platform, which is why it might be a bit of a shock to learn that all three games will be headed to PC. Epic Games has secured the titles as exclusive to their Epic Games Store, following an announcement at GDC 2019 including other upcoming exclusives, such as Remedy's Control, Phoenix Point, and The Outer Worlds. All three games will launch later this year, with specific release dates to be revealed in the future.

David Cage and I have planned the next evolution of Quantic Dream very carefully. The move to PC constitutes our studio’s first effort to develop non PlayStation exclusive games in over 13 years, but also an opportunity to gradually engage the team on multiple projects at the same time. The most important evolution for Quantic Dream, however, is that we are no longer a developer working with a publisher. Starting with the PC versions of Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human, we will be self-publishing all our titles.

Right, so forcing us to use the most insecure store front, run by an anti-consumer company is the way to go about it? Gotcha.
Well that’s how it is. Some are anti consumer. Some CD labels are anti consumer and have their favorite bands released for their exclusive label. So do you support them because they are your favorite band or not support them because the record label is trash?

Forcing you? Is the developer holding you at gunpoint telling you to play the game? Again, blame the developers. Blaming Epic because they have good business sense is just stupid.

Also, insecure? Do you actually know anything about what you're talking about? How about doing some research before becoming a sheep.

If you don’t have exclusives then what’s the point of having multiple store fronts? If all games are released on all store fronts.

But if you have only a few store fronts then people will complain about a monopoly, that a few control the majority, they will probably make graphs and charts to show this, like the Disney’s/Fox media graph they show with a hand and puppet strings.

And people will complain of quailty degradation because no competition and complain they will abuse the fact that they are a monopoly. But then complain that there is too many store fronts.
competition between multiple store fronts means lower prices for the consumer, if they all have the same games, they'll compete to have lower prices and better discounts for those same games.
we don't need exclusives for competing storefronts to make sense

How would they lower prices if it’s all digital? Would would the store front need to do to lower prices?

Steam is in their repos, so that won't be an issue.

Graphics are only an issue if the used engine is poorly made and most common modern engines work perfectly on Linux.

Then again, the Epic launcher is shit regardless of these things.

It's a bit more than that as well. I personally develop on UE4. While you can build Linux in the engine, unless the game was made from the start on Linux, it won't work out well. Missing textures, bad physics, etc. All of it will have to be fixed platform by platform before release. AIf anyengine allowed you to compile both Windows and Linux without issues on each, every developer would go for it.
Then you come in to the issue of graphics apis like OpenGL, DX, and Vulkan. Just because it works on DX doesn't mean it will work the same on OpenGL. Or Vulkan for that matter.

There’s probably a benefit for the developers releasing on the epic store front, it could be that they’ll let them keep a bigger chunk of sales on that store front compared to the other.

If the store front is bad and they won’t make much off it then they’ll switch to the other store front where they can make good money. There must be a deal in there somewhere that made that the developers benefit. If not then release on both store fronts and make tons of money.

monopoly = no competency = doing what they want
granted, they still have to remain competitive because consoles exist, but if that wasn't the case...

and fyi, steam collects as many info (if not more) as any other storefronts. from where do you think the statistics of os, hardware and software usage they have come from??

Nice, i can finally play those games with good framerate and graphics on PC!

EPIC GAMES STORE

Meh, good it's only 1 year exclusives, waiting for that website to make a torrent of them.

We all know how it will be going, Epic Games will make a bit of sales but then when devs notice they can make way more on Steam, they'll switch. For now, the games will be more downloaded than bought legally, but after they port it, people will buy theses games.

Why not using the Epic Games Store?
  • anti-costumer company, they have a shitty client service, no warrantys of refunds
  • No features, only the store and DRMs, no chat, no VR-exclusive games, no TV mode, no Music Player, no Internet Browser, no good friends system,no integration into games...
  • Not availlable on Linux
  • People will just pirate exclusives until they get ported
  • A lot of people don't want to use it
  • untrustworthy company (seems redundant but after the leaks, you're not too sure...)
  • Devs will loose money in this store (since a lot less people will buy the games)
  • Made by the same company who brought you Fortnite: A good game at first but polluted by his community and became shitty with each in-app purchases, skins...
  • Epic Games is becoming the new EA.

However, competion is good, it makes Steam wake-up and lower their prices. Plus, Epic Games made Unreal Engine and Unreal Tournament so they proved they can make good things.

I would recommend some stores like Discord, Steam or GOG for your PC games.

This is a trade off situation. At least for him since he doesn’t like Epic store front.

Epic right now has kind of a monopoly on these games, at least for pc store fronts since they were released on PlayStation. But let’s say exclusive games are bad, and there is no exclusives so no reason for other store fronts to exist to make them stand out. Is it worth it for a monopoly on the entire library of video games just so you can have your game release on the store front you like? How would you know that absolute power won’t corrupt?

Seen this and thought that this is great because I always wanted to play Heavy Rain but it's another bullshit Epic Games exclusive so I'll pass.

... Or they could just go back to installing the games from a disc and not a dedicated store front? It's not all about "muh store". If EPIC didn't have such a terrible introduction to the digital storefront this wouldn't be an issue, now would it? They've got a lot of work to do before I'll even attempt to consider installing that trashware again.
