While I don't really like the practice of exclusivity I feel as if the developers who went back on their word are the problem in that case on not epic themselves.

For me I just don't trust Epic with my information. Not because they sell it, but because their security is pretty bad. If they make some much needed adjustments and give us a more streamlined UI I really wouldn't care.

But Origin was also giving away lots of free games until not so long ago.

It would be quite a twist if they made them free for a week right after losing exclusivity.

Depends, if Epic contacts the dev/publisher first then I think they deserve at least some blame (can’t help but think of Satan tempting someone cliche, but that’s an extreme comparison not to take seriously).

Epic may also apparently require that games be exclusive or they wont allow it on the store at all, at least in one case:

Innovation or costs? If Steam finds itself losing out then it has to make a counter offer (better deal for the devs/pubs, more features, some publicity, help with funding... many options available).

Developers developers developers. It is popular line within computing, and generally works quite well.

Is shopping basket really essential to your enjoyment of games?

Also free games, discounts and the like is nice. Probably would not have attracted as many people though.

Someone scratches my back and I scratch theirs.
    Shocker there.

The moment EGS launched, Steam already had it beat in three out of four categories you listed. Hard to provide real competition without, y'know...actually trying to be competitive. Free games and exclusives are not replacements for feature and security updates. Especially when your service is so barebones that you have to send customers to the competition for tech support and/or their VR platform.

Anyone here got the Epic store early on and got all these free games they were giving away?

I saw epic take a smaller cut for being a download/payment provider, features (for devs this is) is nice but how necessary they are I don't know (given many things prior made their way to GOG or something eventually and looking at cracks for them then probably not that necessary, and poking around the Steam SDK/API stuff also nothing of too great interest for most games though some it would be a help), Steam publicity usually amounts to it is on our shop/you can search for it, and Epic seemed to fund quite a few projects going by all the various news stories where Steam funded a couple of students and maybe an indy dev somewhere in there.

VR is a fad and probably will be for another few years at least and I missed the tech support thing, what was that one?

I mean if you want 1 universal launcher your best bet is just going with LaunchBox as it recently added support for Uplay Epicgames and a few other launchers

I feel like a dinosaur whenever I see all the Epic bashing and Steam praise. Was no one around when Steam was the bad guy for taking away our ownership of our games?

Of course not, those aren't EA games. There were things like Mass Effect 2 and Dead Space. I'm sure there's a list somewhere; I don't think https://en.everybodywiki.com/List_of_Origin's_On_the_House_games is complete.

And Ubisoft definitely gave away a bunch of the Assassin's Creed games in the past, among other things.

I can remember how absolutely incensed everyone was when trying to install Half-Life 2 when it first came out.

From what I hear, Heavy Rain's the only decent game out of the David Cage trio; Beyond has unlikable characters and far too many skips in time, alongside mediocre controls.

As for Detroit...it tries to emulate the equal rights movement of the late 1900s, from what I understand, but utterly fails at it due to just how fundamentally different "robots vs humans" and "blacks vs whites" are; the latter case, the real life one, has everyone being the same internally, just having a different appearance on top. The former case has machines, that don't get "tired" after doing hours upon hours of the exact same work, that can be repaired very easily, that can outstrip humans in terms of physical strength and "mental" ability. The two just don't match.
Not to mention how, unlike actual equal rights movements, none of the "privileged" group join the protesters; instead, it's solely robots vs. humans.

In short, I couldn't care less about these three disasters coming to Steam, and Cage utterly sucks at writing coherent plots and characters.

So your entire rant was based off of "From what I hear" and "from what I understand", yet you're able to come to the conclusion that "Cage utterly sucks at writing coherent plots and characters".

Okayyyyyyyyyyyy then buddy. Lmao. That's even worse than when I see people giving movie reviews that say "This movie sucked! I turned it off after 15 minutues!!!", because it appears you didn't give these games even that much of your time.

If Epic thought VR was a fad they wouldn't bother putting VR-compatible games on their storefront at all, let alone make them exclusive. Not to mention Half-Life Alyx just recently caused the user base for VR on PC to double.

When games are available on both platforms (or there's at least a store page on Steam), people use the Steam community forums for support for their EGS purchases. Epic suggests using their subreddit, but most of the time that's massively unhelpful as far as I can tell, and there is no way to communicate with individual developers there either.

hopefully one of them will be free on EGS later on, I'd love to play Detroit especially since it seems to be the better one of the bunch. I remember Heavy Rain was pretty good.

Exactly, as I've said before Epic treats it's customers like shit and always has. So much of what Epic does is beneficial (to a business) from a business standpoint. Which is great for those in said business, but guess what?

We are not in the business, we are the customers. Epic does not give two shits about us, only how much money they can take and how. Innovation is the last thing on their minds.

Steam is far from perfect, but what we (the consumer) really need is a proper competitor so that we benefit. "Exclusives" are the last thing we need more of, which EGS seems hell bent on forcing on everyone. Epic having developers delay/stop releases on other stores just kills competition while leaving the illusion of choice in it's place.
