Hi! I have a question.
I bought a second hand 3ds (old). This 3DS has installed B9S, Luma3DS, FBI, Luma3DS Updater, GodMode9, BigBlueMenu. Now, here's the thing. I have 1 new SD Card. I want my old SD card to be formatted and be replaced with the new one (I will use the old one on an R4i flash cart).

I've already read 3ds hacks guide. But I'm afraid to format my old one. Is there any existing guide for this?

When buying an already modded 3DS, it is a good idea to do some checks:
  • Make sure your main software is up to date:
    • Luma version 9.1 (hold “Select” while booting or press “L”+“Down”+“Select” in the Home Menu to bring up Rosalina to get the version)
    • GodMode9 version 1.7.1 (hold “Start” while booting for chain loading)
    • FBI version 2.5.3 (Just start FBI to see the version)
  • If don’t have a NAND-backup yet, create one with GodMode9 and copy it to your computer.
  • Try if your console boots without SD-card. If this does not work, you don’t have boot.firm installed on the NAND (fail safe in case anything with the SD goes wrong). If the 3DS boots without SD, hold “Select” while booting, to see if the installed version of Luma is 9.1 and not older.
And some other things you should do:
  • Backup your game saves with Checkpoint and/or JKSM. You should do this every now and then.
  • If the new card is 64GB or bigger use guiformat to format it with FAT32.
  • Test the new SD with h2testw. If you get any other result than "completed without error" get another SD.
Then just copy all data old SD to your computer and from there to the new SD (keeping the copy on the computer is a good idea!). Put the new SD into the 3DS and try if your installed software is shown and start some of it to test. If this looks okay, you can safely format the old SD.

To be honest, you only need to copy the data from the old SD to the new SD to get it working. All the stuff above is to make sure you’re up to date, the cfw installation is okay and you have backups of everything.

Haven't kept up with the 3DS scene in a while. I'm on 11.6/Luma/B9S/GW. I understand I can update normally and need to update Luma, ect. But I'm concerned specifically about my NNID as I have the same NNID on my 3DS as I do my legitimate (non-hacked) Switch.

Can I use my 3DS normally (which has legitimate 3DS purchases as well as CDN pirated titles) for offline and online play, or should I sever it's connection from the internet and keep it offline only? I know it's likely the latter, but wanted to ask since the dust has settled a bit after the 11.8 madness came about.

at the luma v6.6 menu , what do I press ? I keep booting into normal 3ds mode
Updating your cfw installation is highly recommended. A9LH to B9S.
What do you want to load?
  • Holding "Select" at boot → Luma settings
  • Holding "Start" at boot→ chain loading (GodMode9 and other payloads if any)

You must have Luma 9.1 before updating to 11.9 or you will get the "Failed to apply 1 Firm Patch(es)" message. That's all.

About online and bans… I'm just a talking parrot regarding this topic and repeating what I've read countless times (never played online in my life with anything):
  • Do not cheat online.
  • Do not set you favorite app to a homebrew.
  • Do not play (leaked) games before official release.
  • Set the options like in the red box of the get started page of the guide
  • Do not try to redownload games from the shop you did not pay.
The server side changes are only for the download. To get access to download you must have a valid ticket. The server security upgrade has no impact on installed games. There is not ticket check when booting a game. Then there should be no ban.

Awesome, thank you, that adds some relief of booting up my 3DS on network then. I did read mixed user reviews on updating a non-ticket-owned game so I'll probably avoid updating anything for the time being.

Hi all, I just bought a 2DS to give to my daughter this Christmas, I was trying to figure out how to install cfw by reading 3ds.hacks.guide.
This 2DS came with 11.6.0 firmware revision, as far as I understand with this firmware revision I will need a compatible flashcart, but with the 11.9.0 firmware I can use frogminer (withou having to use a flashcart). So can I just update the 2DS to the latest firmware and then go from there?

Is the latest one 11.9.0 or if I update it it will install a different\newer firmware revision?

Thank you all :)

I did the steps, but boot into luma mode instead

Hey folks, following situation:

I bought a broken N3DSXL from ebay with the description "LED goes on and then off". I assumed the LED went off instantaneous, pointing towards a hardware fault.
But the blue LED fades away, so I think someone tinkered with the software. I can't tell what has been done, since there is no SD card inside which could point into a direction of the current state of the 3DS.

Here are my questions:

1. The blue LED fading away means that the 3DS fails to boot?
1.1 In case of 'Yes', does it point to a specific file missing or is it a general sign that booting failed?

2. I can't enter recovery mode, does this fact give me any additional information about the current state of my 3DS?

3. If I press START + SELECT + X and ON, the blue LED stays on until I let go of the buttons. Does this fact give me any additional information about the current state of my 3DS?

4. Can I somehow find out what the current version of my 3DS is?

I assume the best thing to get started with is to buy a SD card and try to supply potentially missing files, so

5. What would be the most likely SD card file configurations to try out?

6. Since I have no hint towards the firmware version, do I need to try the files for all of them? Or is there a clever assumption about what version could be on the DS to narrow down the suspects?

7. would a hardmod and extracting the sysNAND help? Is this a better starting point than trying to find the correct missing files on the SD card?
I am experienced with soldering, so hardmodding would not be a problem.

Huge thanks in advance for any hints and tips on how to tackle this.

@barr0s: Just upgrade to 11.9.0; it is the latest version. Only the latest version can access the Eshop to download the free game needed for the Frogminer method.

@ewr43434343: Please provide more information. What are you trying to do? Did you finish the guide for A9LH→B9S?

@Ferguth: In the best case you have a modded 3DS with missing boot.firm; The micro-SD must be formatted to FAT32, 32kb cluster size.
First options to try (in that order):
  • Put boot.firm from the latest Luma 9.1 into the root of the micro-SD and try to boot.
  • If that fails try boot.firm from version 7.1 instead.
  • If that also fails put arm9loaderhax.bin from version 7.0.5 into the root of your micro-SD

section 2, step 1, it stops working there.

edit -

working now

Literally just got a New 3DS XL and am following 3ds.hacks.guide to get CFW installed. Based on my firmware of 11.3; the guide points me to use soundhax, however i note that when at the soundhax site, it seems to support up to 11.2 only. The guide isnt explicit, however im assuming im still ok to run with that version of Soundhax on my 11.3 console? Apologies if this is blatantly obvious and ive missed something?

Cheers.

Soundhax is compatible with 11.3.

Okay, first of all i wanted to say 'hi' to everyone here, as it is my first post on this forum. :)

I spent last few days reading about CFW to get a knowledge that would help me in hacking 3DS. I have never had any Nintendo handheld before (except GBA SP, but it was a long, long time ago) so i have a lot to catch up in this subject. So i wanted to gift myself this christmas and bought a brand new 2DS XL (the 'New' version), first thing I want to do with it is to install Luma and other CFWs but i have few questions before i even touch it.

First of all - how likely is to brick console while following 3ds hacks guide? 2DS can brick even by slight mistake in a process or it's not that unforgiving? I'm not a total newbie in CFW but still feel a little scared thinking about getting it done with my bare hands, as it's my first time even holding DS. :P

Second question is about bans. I read that my console should be safe if I install CIAs from my region. But I was looking at 'that ISO site' and majority of games are from USA region. So if I install USA (Region Free) and get my console online or play this game online I am risking getting banned? I really don't know how this works and didn't find one clear answer. But maybe I just overlooked something...

Do I need flashcards e.g. R4 to play old DS games? Or just micro SD is more than enough to get everything done?

Thanks for answers. :)

PS. English is not my native language and I didn't speak nor text with it in a while so I can be a little rusty, thats why i wanted to apologize in advance for my grammatical errors.

Almost impossible to brick unless you are trying to. And you can generally always recover with an ntrboot cart.

You should try to install games from your region if you plan to play online, but no one is really sure what Nintendo's process is with bans.

There's a method to play many just with CFW, try that first and if there's a game you want to play that isn't compatible you can think about getting a DS flashcart then.

Hi everyone !

As many others, I followed the 3ds hacks guide, and I think I did everything right.
But now I don't really understand how I should use all this to play games ?
I read about "freeshop" but it seems to no longer work.
I have an old DS flashcard (M3 something), should I use that ?
Thanks !

Find games in .cia format, and install them using FBI.
