Whats up with emunand? Will it even be possible? Are anyone even close to get it working at the moment?

Why I'm asking is because for me, it's starting to get... euhm... cant really find the correct english term. Laughable? Comic?
I have a Switch, which I don't use, because the games I want to play requires 4.0.0 or higher firmware, and since "everyone" says "don't upgrade" ... I find myself in a position where my Switch collects dust while waiting on emunand :P

And yeah, I saw the haxx where I can do the upgrade and force autorcm in order to not burn fuses, but I don't like autorcm, seems fishy.

How safe is it to play online with your physical games if you've modded your switch to play backups offline?

Its not

Small chance.

All autorcm does is bypass the need for having a jig inserted for rcm mode.

The coldboot hax may not even get released. Small chance.

Ok. So what you tell me is that I could just as well go to 5+?

What I dont like about the autorcm is how it's done.

1 thing if it was a "legit" patch of the bootcode. From my understanding, it's not.
It's "corrupting" the bootimage/whatver it's called, to "force" the switch into RCM.
In my book, thats what I call an "ugly hack".

But I may be wrong? Autorcm maybe is done in another way now?

you are correct, it does corrupt the bootloader to enable autorcm. It also restores it just as easy to disable it.

Up to you if you use autorcm or not.

if you do want to update still use the fuseless guide with choiNX. You then just have to make sure you have a jig with you every time you reboot the console.

Only reason is that I read about ppl bricking their consoles? I thought that there were a chance that autorcm ain't undoable?
Thanks for your feedback so far!

I havent heard of autorcm bricking the console.

To my understanding both the hekate autorcm and reinx toolkit autorcm are the same and can be enabled or disabled with each other

Not sure about sxos autorcm or raj's autorcm

Hello I was able to get another switch from my local shop. should I update the firmwares to latest?
I do beleive today is the official release date of 6.0 so that is what Nintendo will likely dish up to you. I would wait a bit and what others experiences are as there may need to be refinements made to CFW. The other option is to update to 5.1 using ChoiDujourNX offline.

Edit *** Sorry for the double post....

Also just curious if it is acceptable to ask to see the system serials etc before I purchase (=
Depends on who is working that day. They are not stupid and will know exactly why so don’t insult their intelligence. Some won’t care and will be helpful, some will have a strong moral objection and will not help you. IMO the store manager is probable best becuase he wants to make a sale first and foremost and knows you will just go somewhere else to spend your money if he is not accommodating.

Are you supposed to backup the NAND before walking through the device's first-time user/system setup?
I'm afaid my backup isn't clean/virgin enough and worry it won't be safe to use for future emuNAND purposes.

I think you are safe walking through the first time setup, thats what I did. I just skipped setting up a WiFi connection and created a dummy user account.

For some reason I'm having trouble network installing any NSP larger than 1gb via Tinfoil.
I get an error saying:
"Failed to perform remote install!
OnSelected:165: URL size 1002ca4a is too large!"

Anyone know why this is? Small NSPs seem to install fine via network.

Is it a good idea to leave the Switch in the dock all the time even when not playing it?
A few years ago I read an article stating that an electronic device shouldnt be constantly connected to the power source because that depletes battery or something like that. is that still the case with the Switch?

Has anyone been super banned from installing public nsp games.

Not fussed about being online banned but would still like to install updates

All bans to be CDN bans from now on
Late August, a rumour started that all bans would be CDN bans from now on, and existing console bans would be elevated to CDN bans. This is because the content that was previously on the atum server was moved to dauth.
  • atum: Content that doesn't require any authentication to download, for example game updates and firmware updates
  • dauth: Content that requires authentication of your console certificate to download. This includes purchased games.
Before this change, if you received a console ban, you were no longer allowed to access the eShop or download any content that required authentication of your console certificate, which was banned. But you could still get firmware and game updates. With this change, it means you won't be able to download anything with your Switch. It doesn't prevent you downloading updates on your PC using someone else's certificate with CDNSP, and installing it with Tinfoil though. Just makes life that little bit less convenient.

For more discussion on this topic please see this thread.

Might not have enough space wherever you're choosing to install them which would explain why smaller .NSP files would work.

Sleep mode for the Switch is extremely efficient and is arguably better than leaving it off. In fact, regardless if its off or not it is still draining battery. Whatever you read is too big of a generalization to apply to all electronic devices and may actually differ from battery to battery.
OK so it says rumoured. Has anyone actually experienced this issue first hand
Initially, everyone was banned for piracy which involved either LayeredFS or .XCI games; .NSP support came so much later on that bans for these are in the minority. CDN bans were also limited to users who had console certs abusing CDN downloading. However, recently people who never did any sort of CDN downloading with their console's certificate were noticing they were now CDN banned. This was the beginning of the upgrade of all normal console bans to CDN bans. It has no bearing on whether people installed .NSP files; Nintendo has just changed most, if not all, console bans to CDN bans irregardless of the offence. I should also mention that people banned for only using .NSP files are incredibly rare; outside of LayeredFS, everyone else was banned for using either .XCI or .XCI + .NSP

That's not exactly what I meant. I meant continuous charging of it can weaken the battery. is that true?

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:

still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
