Okay, what if one of us did have the PC version? What then? PM contact you reading (or copy-pasting) back the dialogues word for word at so-so chapter / section throughout the game in Japanese or another language so it can be re-translated back to English? No, that would be stupid and ass backwards in re-subbing the game.

There's not a chance this re-translation projection would work in a reasonable fashion unless you straight up rip the game's official English scripts and inject it into the 3DS version. That's the only logical approach with a translation team of one, two, or a handful without* blowing your cover from SE.

You can try to say you're not requesting copyright material, but the implied intention is there. You did a poor job in hiding that in a public forum of all places.

Any smart cookie who doesn't want to roust the ire of Square Enix's watchful eye should not be working with you, or if they did so, would use a burner GBAtemp account, different IP address, VPN, TOR, etc in case things went south. Even then, your established bad attitude already spells trouble and would turn away any self respecting homebrew translator in thinking about teaming up with you at this point.

***

Look, many people including myself do support and share the same goal as you. Unfortunately, you stick out like a sore thumb and should have been more discrete.

If you want the Windows version of DQXI, don't have the money to afford a legitimate copy, and your Internet is really fast, you can acquire a pirated version through torrent. Find it yourself. That's all I got to say for this front.

Glad you have time and passion for something. I've never played Dragon Quest myself but can understand its appeal. Enjoy playing the game the way it was intended, and best of luck with your life.

Almost always there is a chance in the law to make something possible... You just need the correct people with the correct knowledge about how these things works.

It is very unlikely that someone cannot release a tool that can take take content for something that a person owns, to be applied to another thing that the same person owns. :s

I mean, if now a days there is people sharing videos of a full game some of them for free and without getting money, some others for free and getting money back. And it is legal... but remember that time when it was not (at the beginning all are obstacles, not even mention companies like Spotify back then and a thousand more);)

The crack is apparently buggy as hell and the game keeps crashing all the time.

I bought the PC version on sale and I don't regret it, it's just amazing.

There is almost no chance of this happening. The only person/team i have seen have any success with translating Dragon Quest games are a select few from Dragon's Den. SOumet, Helmax, Helix... I would put money on a bet that they wont touch a translation patch for this game since its already available in english. Anyways, the games are complicated messes behind the scenes. Even if you just know japanese, you aren't going to be able to this alone. You will need to be able to build your own tools, understand hex editing, setting flags, and much more. If you can do all that, you will need to devote weeks if not months of your life to plugging in your translations.

Its not gonna happen.

i know of a group of people that are trying it and not even using the localized script but translating it directly from japanese and not using meme words (since they are just lazy choices for chavs and delinquents.) So far the group have got up to whew the hero leaves on his Horse given to him by the Village.

I don't understand why so many people are upset about this process. The other thread got hijacked by people "warning" us too.

They've done nothing wrong as of yet As far as the mods have said in the other thread, simply discussing this violates no rules, but we couldn't share the files here, which no one in this thread is even talking about doing

I know nothing about the process, but I support this a thousand percent, rather its done quickly or not.

Edit:if he asked for illegal content in pm OK that's bad but it just seems like a lot of people don't want this game translated for some reason and are attacking anyone suggesting the possibly no matter how they plan to do it.

Unlike other companies that are cool with their fans translating their games to English, Square Enix is infamous for killing homebrew projects right before they're about to finish. Aka, third trimester abortion on top of dosing salt on gashing wounds level of insult and hurt.

Anyone who wants to go down this path, don't come back crying about getting hit with a C&D letter because we told you so. Keep it all hush-hush, only ask about how to do translation hacks, and don't disclosed intention to publicly launch said translation hack.

The amount of work to do this would be daunting if not impossible for any one person to carry this alone. You would have to eat, sleep, and shit for DQXI. To translate and release the hack within a reasonable time frame (ie, within 2 years generous estimate), it has to be done as a team.

If you form a group to tackle this project, you better to ready to create an untraceable pseudonym in case the weakest link of a member decides to burn all of you spilling the beans to S.E. because they couldn't keep their mouths shut and S.E. caught wind of it, or because bridges were burned kicking out the one guy who couldn't pull his fair share in the workload.

* Pseudonym identity so that the project lives on until completion.

I'm just the messenger. But I'm not giving the identity of the team behind this, but I will say they know what they are doing and won't release this publicly so Nintendo/Square Enix finds out. The only thing i can tell you is the game is translated up to where the hero leaves the village after performing the right of passage and saying farewell to his childhood friend everything up to that is in english, and no meme words like welp are being used. and the team are all very close and trust each
other the only thing that remains in english after that is the menu.

And yet fan translations of Square Enix's property exist although for the most part for games that remain unreleased in the West. By your comment, that shouldn't ever happen because Square will come to your house and slaughter you or something.

The rest is really no different than any other translation project. RPGs have a lot of text so it's really no surprise that it would take a while.

It just feels that people like to concern troll this process. Anyone involved has been warned multiple times in multiple threads with varying degrees of niceness. I don't think they really need to be warned anymore.

Also glad to hear woke goes on.

  1. Did those fan translation projects work in private without catching the attention and interest of Square Enix until after they were released?
  2. Did they have a conflict of interest with Square Enix's marketing of said games?
I can't answer #1 for those success cases, but a DQXI 3DS version (English re-translation) would be stepping on their toes versus the Switch version as Square Enix is banking on fans who want to play this game bad enough to go out and buy it.

The fear is not unfound because of their track record:

they plan to buy the switch version but feel they should do the 3ds version as well and have even said if and only if they plan to do the 3ds as a final game for the 3ds they will halt doing the project but since they are not they said let the naysayers think what they will we are doing this for none profit and only fun and directly translating this title from japanese to english and not butchering it with the cheesy lines like the ghetto words like Ave and missing words out to simplify them. and even have a disclaimer with the following statement " This fan translation was done purely for the love and dedication of the series and not for profit, If you would like to play the original please purchase the PC, PS4 or Switch version thank you and enjoy our hard work. We do hope you enjoy it "

I hope secret DQXI translation group reading this knows most of us "nay-sayers" didn't say it was impossible or shouldn't be done. I abso-fuckin'-lutely want you guys to succeed even though I've never played the Dragon Quest series. The reason I made a big stink is so people are clear what's at stake in that the project has to fly under the fly until it's prime time release. Good luck whoever you guys are. And don't get caught!
