Question Was the "Similar threads" feature removed?

I remember there was a similar threads feature that appeared at the bottom of the page, and when you created a new thread.

However, it doesn't seem to exist anymore, and the only remains I could find is an option in prefrences called "Collapse Similar Threads by default"

I know the feature was somewhat buggy, but was it really so buggy for it to be removed?

Maybe people didn't want to see similar threads asking the same question about hacking their system.

Just noticed this. I'm guessing it was probably removed to avoid accidental necrobumping, as it suggested threads that could've potentially been months old, or worse, IIRC.

It was simply disabled due to the poor coding that caused it to strain the server too much.

We'll look at bringing it back or something similar one day.

When you bring it back can you make it only find recent posts? For example when the thread title was something generic like 'Noob needs help' it would find threads from like 2011 that had nothing whatsoever to do with the thread you were viewing.

There was a "collapse" button, not sure where that went

Also the "Collapse Similar Threads by default" option seems to do absolutely nothing

Costello has been working hard today to restore the feature. It is now available again but the collapse button and user preference to hide it by default are not currently working. I'll fix them soon.

It's only promoting that people may have brought up any problem/topic idea in the past.
If they necropost, their fault for not looking at the date.

if you want to actively and constructively contribute to an old thread there's nothing wrong with that at all

(but if you're just going to say "bump" then yeah don't)

Maybe this little excerpt should be added to the rules, it reads pretty much the other way as it is now

it is just common sense really, and it is stated that way in our internal moderator's handbook, so mods know how to handle these
