Why are people scared. the entire reason to buy this was to play back ups now you can. There's a risk involved to playing online and that's the ban if you can't afford to take the risk or can't bear to be without online play then evidently a back up loader is not for you

Well if we understand how/why they ban, we can potentially put in place measures to minimize detectability. For now, I think it is safe to say that it is unlikely backups will ever be played online. It would be nice to not HAVE to buy a second switch to play a game or two online (such as Splatoon 2 or Smash Bros). For example, if we can setup an emunand which remains offline 100% of the time for backups and a sysnand that is used for legit, online games... we MAY be able to minimize detection.

Agreed but people lure people that wouldn't take that risk into a false sense of security. Like there isn't a risk, there most defiantly is, so plan accordingly, is all I'm saying.
There has always been a risk it says so on tx teams website so I don't buy the false sense of security since the first Xbox there has been ban waves so it's nothing new

To us there has always been risk. To the people that have been around long enough.

To the people that are young, or CFWed their first device on the 3DS where there was no risk, there can be a false sense of security.

When is the last time we had a Nintendo console that could/would get banned, and not be fixable from the situation? GameCube?

It also.doesnt help with the New TX FAQ saying it's safe, people saying it's safe in the threads. Trusting people will get burnt, just like everywhere else in life.

I always lived by the saying "Paranoia is just reality in larger doses" you live by that, and you will always come out ahead :).

The updates haven't been banned as no one has pirated games yet.

Now games are being pirated that changes everything. In the case of the BBB titles, there hasn't been many people using them.

Once Nintendo starts getting 10,000 requests from the same game cart is when bans will happen. Scries did say that even when you play the game offline it registers the cert, then when you go online the certs are uploaded, to give you your eShop coins.

Updates have nothing to do with it, the first time you put the cart in and hit play it's now in the q to be told to Ninty you have that game with that cert.

But what if the OFW doesn't register the games played in the CFW? AFAIK, you can boot the switch in CFW (SX OS) or OFW modes. So maybe the logs from the backup launcher CFW aren't shared with the OFW. IIRC, TX even said that if you want to play online with legit software you could do it in OFW...

The CFW is just patched OFW. It's not like EmuNAND where it's basically a completely different system software-wise.

We will see if that's the case, however if it was then how would get updates.

Furthermore the logs are firmware based not OS based afaik.

Well we have seen 2 types of bans thus far. 1 they are able to update, however not access the eShop or online play, this is what happened to the hacker guys accessing the CDN.

The second type we seen was for the game hackers, people cheating in Splatoon.

They were able to update, and access the eShop, however they were not able to play online multiplayer.

The only purpose an Emunand serves is to give you a fake nand. So that way if your Nand is banned, you can just make a new one.

The Switch doesn't work that, it uses a Certificate System, and your Emunand will have the same Certs, so if your Emunand gets banned so does your system Nand.

The game also have Certificates based on their headers, which are indivual like a digital serial numbers. We as of now, do not know enough about their header system to generate headers.

Even if we did, with pirated copies they would be able to catch alot of people using the same header, including banning innocent people who's header you happen to copy.

There is no possible way to play backups online. Not now not ever, PlayStation uses a very similar system, and as of today PS4 games that are pirated cannot be played online.

This doesn't include of course your own personal backups. You may very well be able to play those online, now or in the future without detection. Pirated games though, the chances are very slim they will ever be playable online.

We may be able to avoid the offline detection systems for the cart backups. (What I was talking about earlier with the coins)

However games will always have their certs checked when connecting to online multiplayer, so not going to happen.

If you reread what I said, you would see that I said to use the emunand offline only (as in literally NEVER connect to the internet) and the sysnand online only for legitimate use. I actually specifically stated that I don't think backups will be able to be played online.

Oh, okay my apologies.

On that front we will likely see that to some degree. However the way the switch was designed there will never ever be 100% guarantee of not being banned. There is some things like those logs, that we cannot access or modify.

The system logs that Scries mentioned that get sent to Ninty are in the Firmware level, we have no access to that and Emunand won't help. We would need kernal exploits, and we don't have those, the exploit we currently have let's us into the bootloader that's all.

The OS is not compromised, the hardware is, for your suggestion to work, we would need a comprimised Firmware and OS, which doesn't seem likely.

Which is why Ninty could actually break access to save files ECT in a later update. Without kernal exploits at the point what we can do will be limited, they didn't feel the need to lock that down as they thought the system was inpeterable (it was/is, if not for Nvidia dropping the ball)

I wonder if the following scenario might be possible:
- have a backup from your virgin nand (in my case fw 4.1)
- get sx os and play all the bbb backups you want while staying offline
- export (with a homebrew tool?) the savegames of your legit cards or bbb backups in case you need them later

So far no problem i think but now my console wants to send data to ninty about the games and (empty) certs i own the next time i want to go online. To prevent this, this was my first idea and I would like to know if this would be possible as nasty workaround until emunand is available.

When I want to go online I just have to factory reset my switch so all data are lost - hopefully my list of played games and certs as well.
If this is not enough (cause we dont know what data the switch keeps after factory reset) I could restore my virgin nand backup and would be ready for online....right?

Your not making much sense.

With the "Virgin Nand" Comments.

Once again, you cannot fake you switch Certs. Your SX OS uses that Cert, Emunand uses that Cert, your switch uses that Cert.

You cannot access that Cert, you cannot spoof that cert, you cannot touch that cert.

Emunand does nothing for the switch at all, it is worthless for the Switch. If your holding out hope for Emunand to save the day, your going to be waiting a very long time as it won't do shit.

Your switch has 1, Burned in at the factory Cert, period. If that gets banned on SX, Emunanad System Nand or wherever you now have a banned Switch period. The only way to fix that is a new board.

Game Certs are stored on your system in a protected area with your systems Cert. When you go online Ninty will get them, there is no way around that. They are not stored in the OS, so Emunand doesn't matter, nor does SX OS, they will be logged period.

Once they are logged they will cause a ban IF Nintendo decides to ban like that.

Well as far as we know you can still update if your banned. eShop you won't have access to if the hackers bans are what we get.

(Those guys were messing with the eShop, so you may still have eShop)

You don't, as a matter of fact Scries already told everyone that is exactly what will happen.

If you pirate games you are most likely to be banned the next you go online. Whether with a banned game or not. That is a risk you have to decide for your yourself if it's worth or not.

Check your emails lol. Like I said in one of these threads earlier, I recently got Kirby and then the next day got a email saying claim your gold points for buying Kirby. They knew I bought and played Kirby Cart, without me ever playing Kirby online (does Kirby even have online play?). That's exactly what's Scries said would happen, and as sure as my emails it does.

Matter of fact I got this email yesterday.

We have never played Mario Kart online, we actually have never even launched Mario kart from my profile (my daughter doesn't have a Nintendo account to play online, she is 6 and only played suprivised for 2 hours between us buying it and now.)

Check your emails gaurnteed you got similar ones.
