Well... and you said you had Spotpass off? Sending of information off? EVERYTHING OFF?

Everything was off. I do know what I'm doing.

I've also unbanned the console for the moment, so this is just me scratching my head and wondering what's tattling.

I'm pretty sure data is transmitted to Nintendo regardless. If you're using unsigned CIAs at all, you're at risk for a ban.

Of course, never said anything to the contrary. The question is which process did so, and if there's any getting around it. If the process in question was the eshop, then fine, we just avoid the eshop. If it was a background process on during the freeshop, then we just figure out if we can block that communication. If it's the games themselves, oh well, we just have to get used to hopping from seed to seed.

Quick note.... turning off Friend list notifications doesn't matter. The only thing that matter more is the Spotpass

Eh, in theory the friend notifications could be a way for Nintendo to figure it out. Even when that recommendation came about, it was more of a "just in case" precaution. But yeah, the spotpass telemetry was the big one, but even with that on, bans are still happening.

Do you always have wireless communications turned off on your home menu?

It may be a way that they can ban you but I haven't been banned. Public seeds will be banned 99% of the time depending who has it and if they have Spotpass on or off.

Did you use a public seed? I can't find a working one anywhere now.:/

I remember the last time a banwave occured, it seemed to be in response to boot9strap being released (& bootrom dumping).
I wonder if the same thing is happening as a response to brute-forcing movable.seds...

They seem to like to do counter-attacks against advances in the homebrew scene.

Good luck trying to find one. They're probably getting banned by the next ban wave. A$$holes ruin the public seeds for everyone. You are better off getting a seed from a friend who can trust you

Even if everyone is reasonably cautious using a public seed, it should be pretty obvious to Nintendo when hundreds of people have the exact same seed. That being said, given how slow Nintendo is with the bans, we should easily be able to outlast them with new seeds.

That can be possible but you gotta remember people can share with how many people they want and still not get banned. Yes having so many people using the seed can be the reason of that seed getting banned but within those 100+ of 3DS' using it, 1 person can ruin it for everyone.

Disabling SpotPass and Friend List settings do nothing to help. Nintendo collects data from you while running any game or application with Wireless enabled and an active internet connection. The best disabling SpotPass data collection gives you is a placebo effect to make you feel like you're doing something. Public seeds will get banned, and it's not because of SpotPass settings... Nintendo is collecting data anyway.

There is somthing i would like to point out about that,my public seed got banned i think at the same time as the reported private seeds, which means multiple people being on one seed might not be the case this time For the cause of the seeds ban.

So i guess this banwave debunks the spotpass theorys since people who had there private seeds banned this time also had spotpass off during the ban.

I would challenge the idea that they do nothing. We know that the spotpass data sharing does indeed serve as system telemetry, and the correlation was very high during last year's banning jamboree. Clearly they are not foolproof, but from what we understand, the spotpass one is at least somewhat meaningful.

BOSS telemetry still collects everything Nintendo needs to know to ban a user. The best thing you can do to avoid being banned is run no CIA homebrew whatsoever and only play games which you have legitimate tickets for. Correlation is not causation, and we know that Nintendo is collecting data whether that setting is on or off; and people are still being banned with said setting off. Most people had that setting on because it is on by default, I would dare to say. Now, most people have it off because of the notion that it somehow protects them. I don't mind playing cat and mouse with Nintendo for using CIA homebrew because it's what's convenient to me, but the only way to completely avoid them from knowing what you're up to is to disable Wireless functionality on your console entirely. That's not worth it to me.

Unless you can convince me otherwise, I'm pretty sure this is what happens, and why people with CFW and a clean LFCS_B continue to be banned each time even with those things turned off.

I don't know anyone who has CFW and can give me their seed, so that's out of the question. I found an incredible site though that always has a working public seed and got myself unbanned!:grog:

I found one just now with relative ease. Hint: It was uploaded Feb 9th.
I know, I found it soon after posting that:P

True, it's an idiot in a group is almost always why a public seed gets banned...

This time appears to be completely random, as even a friend of mine got banned when she only had Luma so she could take screenshots during games, never did anything other than that with it and didn't even bother using FBI at all or anything like that. And yes, spotpass settings affect the data sent about GAMES (as in in-game), not data in general.

Okay, who's 3DS got banned? My N3DS never got banned. I never turn off my Wi-Fi. I run homebrew application through cias. I install my retail games and sell the games to someone else. I use cheats online for fun like Mario kart 7, staying in last place and throwing blue shells. So many bad things are going through my 3DS and still havent got banned. I have a O3DS that got banned when the ban wave was announce and there was a way to prevent it. Simply just turn off Spotpass. Simple as that, it didn't get ban but it did get banned when I enabled spotpass to see if I would get banned (Its unbanned with my N3DS seed). I don't know how to explain this to you guys. Especially someone who's been in the 3DS hacking scene for years. You guys must think I'm a noob here but yet again I still have a 3DS that isn't banned. I'm done with this thread. You guys can continue making assumptions. Spotpass off is the way to go if you have a brand new 3DS and you choose to put any CFW on it. I do a local service to put CFW on 3DS' and none of my clients have messaged me about their 3DS being unable to play online. Have a nice day everyone.
