I'm sure it's progress of some sort but what exactly does it mean? Will it help with exploits? Homebrew? Custom Firmware? Sorry for the noobish question.

As a side question, are people usually this excited for hacking so soon after a console's release?

It is one way to get Steam on Switch, even if the list of compatible games is fairly short.

There's a discussion thread as well as the announcement thread.
Ah, I thought the announcement and "discussion" we're synonymous (i.e. I thought the discussion was the same as the announcement and this, didn't see the discussion) my apologies.

I'd use Linux if people actually ported games over, more emulators, drivers, I'd switch over to Linux in a heartbeat if nVidia drivers would actually work.

The overall lack of support is blamed on a lot.. It's hard to pinpoint why.. But yes, I agree with this.

People just can't be arsed to put forth conceited effort to porting drivers over, I know it's stable too, but I digress. Who knows what this will do for the Switch scene TBH.

I wouldn't know, I don't use Linux. Compatibility's too low.

It isn't saying much since it's practically a generation behind, but WINE was recently updated with Direct X 10 and 11 support, bringing over a ton of new games and the such. It isn't enough for me to switch over, but some folks I know were happy to see the compatibility and jumped ship.

I'm not a big fan of compatibility layers/hardware emulation, I'd figure games would have glitches galore.
