do non-english native speakers preefer translations or games in english?

hey folks of gbatemp, do you preefer the games to be in your primary language, or you rather have them in english...

as a non american, non aussie, non english etc.. i had the pain of don't be able to understand games and being forced to learn english with games...
however as i grew up, games started to be translated and come in my language, sometimes just the menus are translated other times the entire game is translated

and i says, fuck the translations! specially dubbed ones.. i love to watch kids movies like nemo in my own language but i can't concentrate or play a game in my language..


INb4 brazilian gbatempers will complain about games not being in brazilian (because they are expensive as hell in there thus, there is not much people who can buy gaemz)

I prefer my games to be in English, mostly because the games I have played in Swedish sounds so odd. They haven't been translated professionally like literary works have, and it just feels.... wrong.
Now, I think it's good that there are kids games with Swedish language, often movie tie ins, and those work well enough.
I have Shadowrun for SNES in Swedish, which I love... but the dialogue is soooo silly. Maybe it's to be the most truthful to the original script, but still. All the text is written in slang, like "Watcha doin fuckface?" but in Swedish, chopping off some letters to sound like slang.

Most of the translations's grammar besides english are still very stiff. That, or i'm just too used to play in english.
Maybe you can watch The Incredibles in your own native language, but playing games? That might never work.

I'd rather play in English. Brazilian translations are both really poor and almost always terribly executed, especially when they dub games. I like to play in languages other than English though to practice my reading a bit.

Depends. I'm used to play Pokémon in French because of names. For everything else, I like English better. At least because it's easier to look for stuff on the internet with English names than with French ones (just take a random Yokai Watch item and try to find what shop sells that. You can find the information you need in English, not in French...).

Original language if I understand it, English otherwise (with very few if any exceptions).
Why?
Translations / dubs are awful, always, no exception there.
But localizations to English are handled (as a general rule) with better quality standards and professionality than other languages.
So, if worst case scenario, let's say the game is in Japanese and I can't understand that, I prefer them in English than in any other BS.
PS: Not Spanish, not German, not fucking Italian, just plain old English. Please, ok?

since the Pokemon games when I was a child were in English I get used to that language on those games, but normally on the the 3ds I play the games in Spanish, on the Xbox 360 its the opposite, anyway I love both ways

I understand your pain. Nothing you can do about it. If you want then hacking it and translate it. With that said, two words: Learn English.

Reason why I hack consoles is to do the opposite.
To get rid of forced localization.

man Id' rather play the game in the original language if I could understand it all, for example it's an japanes egame, play in japanese so I woun't be forced to have stupid localziation/censorship issues that I hate a lot XD but since I can't read let's go to alternatives :v
IN gerneral I would like a (good) translation of a game, and even better if it have language options so I could replay it in english(or japanese) later and get better the context XD ecen knowing english well I lost some words and in the action of playing I don't look for the meaning or write it down do look later so it have some misses :v
the one thing I most hate in english games are the imperial thing ... " wow the stuuff are 100 feet tall" , I have no idea how tall is this stuff :B lol
another good point of having the game in your language is to make it more acessible, a lot of people don't play good games because are unable to enjoy the history, then or don't like game or are just for action games for being easier :/ one ofthe first translated game I know here (Phantasy star) was translated because they knew nobody would understand english and enjoy the RPG xD

I prefer everything in english. I actually have come to dislike my own language somewhat. Especially the way numbers works in dutch is incredibly stupid. In dutch you'd say "OneThirty" to mean "Thirtyone" English way just makes way more sense as you say it in the order of how you write it.

Same lol. I love Luma's region/language emulation for allowing me to play Smash and Yokai Watch in English on a French console
Though I could just set my consoles' language to English like my Android devices...

Hell. I think I've caught number dislexya after coming to Germany.
And the worst part, they ask me for say 28€ and I handle them 82€ like it's nothing.
Fortunately they don't seem to want to take advantage.
