They're trying to debug it but they can't figure out the biological programming of all of our genes.

Life have self-intent of keep going and potentially reproduction. There is nothing to start the first one, which is why it is an error.

For it to be an error then there would have to have been some intended design for everything. If there is no design then it can not be an error, just a thing which happened. If it is an error then it would have to be an unintended consequence of a design and that is a big leap to make from where I sit.

Also there is plenty, though there could always be more, on early life/life arising from the goop. Have a look for abiogenesis.

I think by "error" people mean "accident".
