Y'know, I'm very very curious. What can we exactly do with the IOSU exploit that's different from the Kernel Exploit? Do we effectively have more control over the Wii U, or is it just the permanent version of the kernel Exploit installed on your console?

Unsigned permanent title installation and full access to all onboard hardware

You can do a lot. You will have full system control. You won't have to load up exploit everytime you want to use homebrew etc. The list goes on. Think of what the wii could do with control of the IOS....there's your answer ;)

Ah gotcha. Just kinda' like where the 3DS is at right now. That's really cool. Is this going to use EMUNand or is it going to be like A9LH?

Damn i'm still in two minds. Will the illusive IOSU exploit work on it if ever............ever.............maybe released?
Well my edgy framebuffer and encryption key posts were from IOSU kernel on 5.5.1, does that convince you

well they're two different things, emuNAND just redirects NAND to SD card, A9LH is what runs emuNAND at boot time, one sets up the other

Hopefully. I have my 3ds's setup nicely now using a9lh with the gateway payload too :) I'm not sure if we will ever see the IOSU though. Anyone have any news on this?

ahhhhh yes.....I remember that post lol. I didn't want to get my hopes up. Guess I will make the jump now :)

Oops. Just remembered that Smealum made a video about RedNAND being installed on the Wii U. So that'll be that. Is this exploit going to be a coldboot one, or do we still the internet browser to set up RedNAND, similar to HENKaku on the PSVita?

Ask Wulfy, Dazz, and Shiny, they're the ones putting in all the work, I'm just observing =P Wulfy already gave her answer so
Hey! If you want to help with a quality iosuhax release, you should help add functionality to wut so we can have full-featured native homebrew on day one. This can be done with or without iosuhax, since you can boot RPXes from loadiine. If you already have iosuhax, you maaay not want to put too much work into polishing that side of things at this time beyond getting basic functionality.
There will be more to announce later on. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps!
A release is coming When It's Done. Listen to SALT (myself, Dazzozo, shinyquagsire23) for more news in the future. Again, we'll talk about it more once it's a bit closer to completion.
We're not talking vulns before release just in case N takes notice and patches stuff in advance.

Oh also update to 5.5.1 while you still can. That's all for now! I actually don't wanna generate much hype until things are more settled.

Alright, can anyone tell me what kind of crazy things are happening here?
Team SALT has confirmed that they're working on an IOSU exploit and will release after it's done. They recommend that everyone should update to 5.5.1, because it's a little different than other firmwares. :)

The actual exploit we'll release with has been done and working about 2ish months actually. The work that's being done right now includes building solid tools for homebrew devs and power users, ensuring everything is as easy as possible for end-users (think hackmii installer), reducing brick risk to zero, and loads of polish. We've got a lot of Surprise Features™ that we'd like to have ready for launch too, but we'll hype those up closer to that time.
There's a pretty big heap of work left to do (particularly concerning brand new things that are being RE'd and implemented from scratch, but also accessibility/UX stuff), but once everything's closing in on being finished you'll know.

In the meantime, I again encourage people to try building homebrew using wut and to help expand the capabilities of their library with PRs. If you create some cool rpx-based homebrew that you'd like to have in a showcase sort of thing, you should get in contact and shoot us a github link.
Anything built with wut and working under loadiine will be directly compatible with our hax and will be launchable directly from the home menu. HB on our hax will have maxed permissions and such of course, but the loadiine environment is enough to test the majority of homebrew games, emulators, and etc.

That's all for the time being! Thanks in advance to anyone who contributes.

I have a few functions I've added to wut so far, but I've already sent them one Pull Request, waiting on them to add those fixes I sent, before I send the new functions I've added. I'll also be putting up some source code on my Github to show everyone how to use the new functions I added.

Until then, anyone who wants to test the test app I made, can download it.

Use:
Press A to show loading a webpage in the browser with browser menu access
Press B to show loading mp4 in the browser with no browser menu access
Press X to show loading mp4 in the browser with browser menu access

After closing the browser, control goes back to the app. This could be used to load a link to a thread for your app, or other uses, such as a quick and easy media player.

Sorry about the menu not being complete, and having unnecessary things, like showing the error code, but I didn't bother changing it for now. :P

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
