A friend of mine has an Old 3ds that he hasn't used in a long time that actually happens to be on Sys 2.1. I already dumped the OTP from it, but what is the best way to proceed in installing A9LH? (Since he doesn't have an emunand or sysnand backup or anything).
Basically you want to follow what the 9.2.0 Update section tells you to do for your full system version.

Hmm.... I forgot about this option during the transfer process. Does the WiFi and PC transfer option both transfer all the same data? Even photos/music? I don't mind waiting for WiFi mode to finish if it will transfer everything the PC mode will.

It'll transfer the whole SD Card. I did this method once, just to see. I had barely anything installed but had other crap on the SD Card, and was wondering why it took so long, until I looked at the SD Card and saw everything had been transferred. lol
Edit: Talking about the one that says it'll take a while, have never used the one that says it'll be faster.

Yes, you can play online just fine with Luma3DS (assuming you installed this per the guide, as this is the CFW you are told to install.) Eshop works just fine as well. I use mine all the time.
Floating about the internet there are reddit posts and videos on how to use NTR on 11.0.0-33. Apparently i use a firmware.bin. am i using the wrong one https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/wiki/Installation-and-Upgrade#installing this site also states the from version 5.0 it isnt required. im getting latest version just to check (5.5)

So I have a little problem-I have an old 3ds fw 7.2.0. Browser is blocked with update message, and I always used browserhax in the past. So my question is, what are my options regarding cfw or rxtools? I have no other point of entry, since I don't have OoT or Ninja game. Any suggestions?

Well, I might have turned my 3DS into a paperweight.
Lemme explain. A9LH boots up, but when I try to go into a CFW, it just goes black and never comes out of it. What do? I havent done anything that affects my NAND (only snes games and using freeshop). I can access apps through A9LH, as i'm using Luma 3DS. Thanks.

Nope, sorry. Either get a sky3ds, or you can use Freakyforms deluxe or powersaves.
There is a way to bypass the message and use the browser again.
You only need to set the date to january 1st 2000 00:00 and delete your browser's history/cookies. Once done, I recommend you to update to 9.2 instead of beibg in 7.x, because that way you'll be able to use homebrew too (without cubic ninja, homebrew requires 9.0+)

I believe the issue is actually with Gateway's software. Gateway's software can't launch DS/DSi software. If you use another CFW (i.e. Luma or Cakes), the Gateway blue card will work if the bluecardfix has been installed.
So I have an old 3DS on fw 9.2 and a 3DS XL on 9.2 as well. The o3ds has the Cubic Ninja hack installed and working.
I've been watching the 3DS hacking scene on and off for a LONG time and decided it might be time to make a move. I was thinking about getting either a Sky3DS plus (orange button) or going the CFW route. I see the logic in the Sky3DS plus..... seems to work on any firmware (same for the Gateway?). Sure, changing games with the Sky SORTA sucks but it's doable. Does the GW still need an internet connection to work its magic?
For the CFW, I was looking at going the Luma/A9LH route and found this guide: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki but good God man.......... 312 steps and if you muck something up, insta-brick. Popping in a Sky3DS card seems WAY WAY easier. Plus, it seems that installing CIA files takes a LONG time vs. just copying over 3DS files to a MicroSD card and sliding it into the Sky3DS.
Is the 4,000 step process to install Luma (and slow ass .CIA install times) worth it? My youngest daughter is just now getting into the 3DS and on long road trips, it sure would be nice to have a single 3DS and 1 cart vs her ever growing bag of DS/3DS games she now lugs around.
I like the option of CIA installs since they'll appear right on the main menu and no orange buttons to push to cycle through the games 1 by 1 but all these complaints I read about slow install times for CIA files worries me.
Thoughts/opinions welcomed, thanks!

You only need to install them once, and forget about it. Do it overnight while your daughter is sleeping. Be sure to have a big enough SD Card though, as they'll go on the 3DS SD Card.
It's really up to you on what you decide. I own a Gateway3DS and yes, for play-testing it's very convenient to drag-and-drop .3DS dumps//roms onto it. Though I still prefer my .CIA installs. I also own a Sky3DS+ and I only really use that for cartridge-based *hax entry points to get A9LH setup on friends' systems.
Edit: Gateway3DS does require you to be on 9.2 and to setup an EmuNAND and basically run it's own CFW. So I don't think I would recommend it. I like it for use with romhacks, play testing .3DS rom dumps and mainly for it's Cheat Menu.
The Sky3DS+ will work on stock firmware, but it will not let you use romhacks or eshop only titles, only retail dumps are usable on it.
Edit2: Basically go the CFW route, it's basically free, and I don't really see the point in paying for a solution, when a free one is easily available.
Edit3: For your daughter's DS games, you'll still need a DS flashcart. As the DS Emulator is a WIP and will probably be exclusive to N3DS only.
