Everybody does realize that Gateway hasn't followed through on their claims since January, right? It's one thing to enjoy the card, but another thing entirely to defend the company. You want to continue using a Gateway? That's fine. You want to stay on 9.2 (Or be super edgy and stay on 4.5)? Go nuts. But let's stop acting let Gateway is even a little competent at this point. They come out with big "Look guys, we're working really hard. We'll get all of those things you want working, don't worry." claims, but end up providing nothing. No downgrade options for people on 9.2+ (Which they talked about in January... You know, 4 months ago). No A9LH. Hell, there isn't even proof that they did any actual "beta testing". I sincerely hope that they actually did start testing, and are in the process of working things out, but... Don't hold your breath.

Gateway may have been good way back when, but as of late, they're crap. The card still works, and that's fine, but the company is pure, unadulterated crap. Even if they come up with A9LH support (At some point... Soon...), they're still lagging behind people who do this work for free. In their spare time.
{insert cool story bro meme here}

There are beta testers in these forums that have confirmed they have the beta. We have come to accept that features tend to be rolled out months later.

The big question is, why bother posting such a large post that's anti GW in a place that GW users reside and don't really care?

Uhhh... Two things.

One. Has anyone actually said they got the beta? As far as I'm aware (And I'll admit I don't lurk the forums anywhere near enough), everyone that reported in was part of the "second wave", and received absolutely nothing.

Two. I followed this thread to see when GW actually released their support. I honestly do care about it, and I wanted to see how they implemented it. And considering it's the supposed release date, and no new information has come out, I decided to read through the thread. Seeing people continually spout praises for a company that has spectacularly failed to deliver for months drove me to comment. I'm sorry that such things offend you.

Still, I do actually want to see something released. Both to get everyone to stop saying "I'll wait for Gateways tools, because they'll be better", and to see how they choose to implement things. With the amount of time they're taking, it'll be nice to see if they actually make tools that are better than what is already out there...

I'm more-so tired of seeing all the GW bashing for not releasing things on time or not giving credits.

This is how it's been the last 3 years. People praise GW for how well they implement features. We know when something is announced it won't be out for a while. Thus Soon™ became a thing.

I fully support ether CFW or GW whichever people use, I however do not support all the bashing of GW that people seem to do all the time, especially the people who only use CFW and have never tried GW. People waltz into this thread just to do it, its pointless and disruptive to the point of the thread.

Let them bash. I enjoy reading about 3ds bricks/soft bricks and what not. Totally digging the attempt trolls at bringing up sad story of a brick code that occurred all so long ago just to make a point.

I am not bashing the product, I honestly want a Gateway myself and I use the Gateway launcher myself for dumping my own games and backing up my NANDs. But people should be upset. They paid for this product, yet they are stuck with out-of-date technology, when free users get cutting-edge shit. If you paid 80$, you should get 80$ worth of support.

Yeah, but you're forgetting one thing. It's a $80 device that circumvents piracy and not something you buy from a store with a warranty. It is was it is and always will be.

Point A start 3DS (power on)

The in-between (A9LH loads your favorite CFW) or (menuhax or comparable entrypoint to launch hombrew launcher to launch GW)

Point B (enjoy games in emuNAND)

If you do not own Gateway and have A9LH you have options to run many different A9LH CFW.
If you do own Gateway and have A9LH you have options to run CFW and NTR or GW and Gateway cheat mode (more options is usually a good thing)

My point is speed aside both solutions allow you play cia on emuNAND.
Gateway just gives you a little flexibility to use .3ds and utilize their cheat system.

Worth dropping $50-$80 at this stage of 3DS life cycle - probably not
Worth spending your downtime while you wait for a new cia to install on your CFW bashing Gateway - I guess but I'll meet you online while we are both at point B.

To Gateway or not to Gateway that is the question.

Better soon(tm) than never. I'm still a fan of Gateway and with never-ending updates. Even though most of these stuff are unnecessary since the 3DS is now fully hacked, they're still supporting their cards. Henceforth, I'm a fan.

Normally, I don't like to get into 'debates', but I do agree for those that jump onboard in the early years $80 of cost was well worth the support so it.

Gateway was first announced on: 05-30-2013, 11:28 AM (Hey, come to think of that, that would be be perfect time for next FULL non-beta release!)

Since then 1088 days have pass by, that is is only 7 cents per day for support and usage!

But on the otherhand, it does suck for those that bought a Gateway 3DS card just because of the new news announced back on March 29th, and have been waiting everyday for the update to do what it claims it will do, I can understand those being a bit upset over the delay, but the delay is nothing more difference then like people ordering a PS4 because of the demos of DriveClub or Uncharted at E3, then waiting year or two for it to get released, only to have not being as good as they hoped it would be or as the demo showed it off. -- Gateway delays have infact been getting less and less each time, compared to the early very long GateWait pre-announcements before release.
Yeah it sucks for those who bought one and have been waiting since march.
I bought 2 at the original Christmas announcement. FML

Hold on you weren't hinting that It's gonna be delayed to the 30th were you?

Wanna cite your sources there bud?
also, don't bring up any private exploits you can find on 3dbrew.
Private exploits, what? http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/MSET_exploit
"The MSET exploit is an exploit for the System Settings application of the Nintendo 3DS (MSET). The vulnerability was originally discovered by
ichfly in 2012, and was later used by the GateWay 3DS."
Smeas exploit was used in ninjhax, until Gateway founded a way to get a kernel exploit. You can search "ReiNand Emunand 10.3 (:", he was the first one with 10.3 emunand. And If you search for "Simple guide downgrading your 3ds,you'll see that tuxsh, Steveice10 and others made memchunkhax2.

These kinds of threads always seem to end up becoming very polarised.

People who own a Gateway and have never explored beyond that struggle to understand why people are so interested in new developments that threaten Gateway, such as A9LH. People become quite protective of their purchase and often don't have the time or inclination to look into newer ways of doing things when their existing setup seems to do everything they need.

On the other hand, people who have never used a Gateway (or no longer use one) love to berate people for finding value in their Gateway, and wonder why they haven't moved on. This is especially true for people who have only joined the scene since CFW have appeared, and thus don't remember the days when Gateway was the bet (and only real) choice.

Rationality is somewhere in the middle. Gateway remains a decent card which, while falling behing the open source CFWs in terms of support and feature set, continue to function perfectly well for most of their users. At the same time, Gateway users would do well to explore other devlelopments such as A9LH and open source CFW to see what more usage and features they can extract from their console.
You forgot a third category of people (who are actually rational). The ones who bought a Gateway first, then switched to "better" (with quotes because it depends on the need, like for example if you use cheats everyday then GW is still better, but if you want a9lh then Luma wins) alternatives when available.
But actually, as rational as these people can be, when people from this third category speak, the ones from the first category assume they are in the second one and conversely so the discussion doesn't get any better.

many talk about GW card bricking the console, did this happen to any GW red card owners ?

i personally like the Red and also the Blue one, i use Blue lot of times for my ds games and it works good.

as for red ,it has helped me putting hax on my other 3ds consoles easier less hassly etc.

i would not say GW is a bad card, i like the card.
and it has not bricked any of my consoles.

i only use the official updates from them.

Can someone tell me what A9LH actually is?

Normally, I don't participate in bashing hardware or fanbases, but let me add my 5 cents...

Most users in this thread are annoyed by GW not following through with their promise to release today, but there are other problems...
  1. The GW 4.5 downgrade is messy to say at best. 'Pure' GW users might not care, but if you want to move on with more recent stuff like a9lh at a later point, gl;hf with your messed up NAND. I could even imply this is intended by team GW, but tbh I doubt it. And their messy downgrade might have been an acceptable solution (cause it also was the only one) at some point in time, but it is no more. Now, they come around with a 'Time Machine', so, will we get more messy down- / upgrades? And, thinking this further, will GW users at some point be closed out from switching to another solution completely?
  2. Despite team GW knowing about this issue (they have been told numerous times), their signature patching is incomplete. Ever tried to view the manual of a originally seed encrypted game? Ever tried to install a theme pack CIA and failed? Ever could not install a CIA that your CFW using friend could install without trouble? Incomplete sig patching is at fault. Being a developer myself, I can tell you, fixing this would take one of their devs an afternoon, tops, but they simply don't do that.
  3. Instead of fixing the above, very obvious, and very annoying problem, they announce features to build up the hype train and then don't follow through.
For a lot of users, staying with GW may be perfectly acceptable, and I perfectly understand this, but it is not for all. I can tell by the sheer number of workarounds (requested by former and current GW users!) I had to implement in D9 to fix problems that GW caused. To add something to the current discussion, especially the second bullet point above makes me doubt that GW will ever release the stuff they promised in their last update.

Adding to this - the most reasonable step for team GW to take at this point in time would be to open source their stuff. They could still maintain the need for the GW card as a dongle by keeping part of it as closed source.

People here don't understand that 90% bought their GW card back in 2013 when there was no other option for years to come. No shit that now it's pointless to buy one with all the free CFW's out there, we know, we get the concept; but we have already made our purchase and because of that we will stick to it since every other "mod" offers nothing more interesting than what we already have. We are fine and dandy with our Gateway cards and we don't give a shit if it takes time to release new updates, so why do you?
Why do I have to read through pages of geeks who bash on something they don't even own just to find info about updates on my flashcard? Don't like it, don't buy it, avoid it, shut up, get a life and stop flooding the topic. Bashing mindlessly on GW should really start to be prohibited for fucks sake.

I should probably say since they mentioned it would run up to 10.7, I imagine it's going to run the same as the other sysUpdaters (which run from ARM11), so it can't screw up NAND as much as their 4.5 downgrader (which ran from ARM9 I think). so it'd probably do the same to NAND as much as Safe/Plai/normal sysUpdater does today.

I'm curious if it's going to solve the strange soft-bricking-post-downgrade issue though... for all the shit Gateway gets I think they do make their tools pretty noob-friendly and reliable-ish (4.5 downgrader screwed up NAND yes but it hasn't bricked a console, has it?), so there's that. :P

Can someone point me to some thread or whatever describing or complaining about the "screwed up NAND" problem after using GW's downgrade ? Because I used it back then, then came back to 9.2 when menuhax was a thing (and switched to rxTools since GW didn't have menuhax support) then installed a9lh when it was a thing (and switch to former AuReiNand since rxTools didn't have a9lh support) and I don't recall having any specific problems with my NAND.
