¿How can i launch directly into EmuNAND without having MenuHax on SysNAND?
you cant that why they call it menuhax autoboot
you need to disable it in emunand load emunand and change the theme

I'm just wondering if there are any fresh eyes to answer my newb questions.
I recently downgraded my 10.1 o3DS XL using this guide, https://gbatemp.net/threads/easiest-way-to-downgrade-your-new-3ds-3ds-down-to-9-2.409037/. I used this guide because I was having trouble with sysUpdater freezing. I experienced a soft brick and resolved it by removing the Nintendo 3DS folder from the SD card. Because I created a backup of the SD card before downgrading, I was able to restore the backup, dbs, and title folders (restoring the extdata folder caused the soft brick to reoccur).

Athough I successfully downgraded my console, I have a few questions.
  1. Why does it seem as though rapidly loading and closing ftBRONY before loading sysUpdater prevents the app from freezing?
  2. I noticed the second 32 character alphanumeric folder in my backup 10.1 Nintendo 3DS folder did not match the second 32 character alphanumeric folder in the 9.2 Nintendo 3DS folder. Why is this?
    (10.1) Nintendo 3DS\ed2e2c6a28c6ac29749c28b55c8cbee9\3e29ccdd5b7ba66a323e19440eca56a7 and (9.2) Nintendo 3DS\ed2e2c6a28c6ac29749c28b55c8cbee9\d3d094ca7e7bbacb565923ebc6a05a41
  3. I observed that restoring the extdata folder caused a soft brick to reoccur, but restoring the backup, dbs, and title folders did not. Why is this?

Did you unlink your nand, system format at any point, or create an emunand?

Is there any reason to have apps on both the SD card to launch through HBC & also installed as cia's? After following a couple guides to get downgraded, emunand, rxTools, etc. all set up.... I am left with duplicates of a few things. Namely FBI, sysupdater, and a couple more I can't remember off hand. Can I just delete one or the other? And why do tutorials have you install things as a cia if they are already in the starter pack and can be run from the HBC?

Anyone care to chime in? I guess I see zero purpose of having duplicates, and don't some make more sense to have installed on emunand as cia? For example... CHMM. Won't running it from HBC install the themes to sysnand while running from emunand will obviously install on emunand?

Question time: I installed nothing but legit CIAs for my cousin which is more than enough games to last until he gets bored. I ran spiderhax on a 10.3, then installed menuhax and used FBI to install the CIA. Can I delete all the homebrew files from the SD card now? And will it get rid of menuhax?

the homebrew folder itself is shared
but the sysupdater and update folder you used to downgrade are useless now and you mat delete that and yes you can strip down to one cia installer if you want
and most people enjoy the convenience of having things in the system menu (time it takes to open hbc and look through the list) and some would not even consider it installed if it was just a hbc app but hbc apps (emulators specifically run better as a .cia) . . . . this leaves me to believe a cia version of anything will work better than a 3dsx

lol . . . i dont know if your a good cousin or an asshole one (you could leave him with ironhax) . . .but its not my place so . . . yes you may remove all that and yes menuhax will be gone just remind him that if he deletes them they are gone (no eshop redownloads)

If the NANDs are unlinked, is it normal to have the systems settings in sync with each other? All the system settings changes I make on sysNAND get copied to emuNAND apart from emuNAND's one working wifi setup.

Does anyone know what's wrong when I get "an error occurred" message when booting an installed cia file? It worked for me before but after rebooting the device and uninstalling reinstalling the cia I keep on getting the error message. The cia file is an undub Devil survivor 2 record breaker

Oooh boy. I have no idea if I should ask here, but as of recently, my 3DS won't stay on for more than about a few seconds without giving me "An error has occurred."
Note that this happens with or without an SD card, no matter where I am (home menu, a game, browser, etc.)

Yes. You can delete them manually from sysNAND afterwards and emuNAND should be unaffected. However, next time you make a change on emuNAND's system settings, they will be copied to sysNAND again.

You uninstalled and reinstalled this cia? Or you uninstalled it and the icon is still there? If the latter, it's causing an error do to it trying to boot a nonexistent title. If the former, I'm not sure why you're getting an error. Either way, try uninstalling the game through system settings. Boot into the NAND that you installed the cia on in CFW. After that, go to sytem settings > data management > 3DS > software and uninstall the game from there. Try reinstalling it after that and see if it works.

Any tutorials how to install cfw for 3dsxl i'm o-o confused.
For O3DS use this tutorial. For N3DS use this tutorial.

alright so i followed this guide: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-how-to-install-a-cfw-on-a-9-0-9-2-n3ds-without-cn-oot.398394/ to install cake cfw stuff, all seem to work fine but the fbi cia iinstalled is nowhere to be found when i boot cfw with cakes. It comes up on my homemenu as a blank button bit dissapears shortly after. And i cannot install it again via HBL fbi since i get an error.

Any ideas?
Could be a couple things.

First, have you done this step?
You will need to go to the "Nintendo 3DS/<id0>/<id1>/dbs/" directory on your SD card and create empty "title.db" and "import.db" files. Then, go to System Settings -> Data Management -> Nintendo 3DS -> Software on your 3DS and let it repair the database files.

Second, when launching FBI from the HBL, you need to boot into CFW first. Boot CFW then boot into the HBL then launch FBI from there.

If neither of these solve the issue, I'm not sure what the issue is.

Could you give more details? What were the last things you did before this started happening?

I believe I just launched ninjhax a few times. The last major thing I did was accidentally making all my SD card data unreadable (my home menu is default again, although my DSiWare and NNID are still intact).
Not sure why this is happening, as I haven't touched the 3DS itself other than actually downgrading it. Maybe that was the problem?

Do you have HomeMenuHax installed as an autoboot? If so, did you set an override button to avoid running HomeMenuHax? Again, if so, try booting the 3DS while holding the override button.

I uninstalled it from system settings after I got the error. I reinstalled it using FBI on my emunand. Still got the same problem. I can install and run any other cia files just fine. Ftbrony and cubix ninja cia's are running fine. I'm reinstalling Devil survivor for the third time right now

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway

    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
