I've never updated emunand (actually havent done any 3ds modding until today) just want to make sure that updating the emunand through the official nintendo button in system settings is still the safe way to do it and wont update my system nand?

I know its suppouse to say RX in system settings (meaning its on emunand) just want to make sure nothing has changed since all the guides are months old like the stickied "mega guide" from January. Doing that method will still work and my emunand will be on the latest available firmware and able to install cias on it??

Don't quote me... But I think you can manually update n3ds to 9.5, and 9.9 for old3ds. I'm not really a pro either.

On o3DS it's safe to update through system settings. Just make sure it says RX-E not RX-S in the version, and remember if you exit system settings it kicks you back to sysNAND so always check the version right before you update and don't close system settings before updating.

You need to unlink them first.

That doesn't matter at all for updating and he has probably already unlinked them.

And yes its safe to update using the system settings after unlinking them. Your CIAs will continue to work.
Really... :) thanks for letting me know.

What about N3DS?

n3DS is 9.5 max so you need to use sysUpdater to update emuNAND. There's not much point in doing so though unless you want to use NTR-CFW which for some reason didn't work on 9.0 but worked fine on 9.5.

Yeah, I don't know why no one else mentioned unlinking them. I tried this on my friends 3DS. He said he doesn't care what I do as long as I don't break it, so I created an emuNAND,did all the necessary stuff, and then launched rxTools in emuNAND, updated, and it updated both emuNAND and sysNAND.

That's BS. I don't know what you did wrong, but my NANDs are linked and I've never encountered that problem. You probably updated sysNAND by accident.

To prevent the gift wrapping bug from occurring and to prevent wifi settings from being changed on both NANDs (there are other ways to prevent both these things though)
Also, it's required in order to use themehax.
Well I am pretty sure I didn't make a mistake, but if you say so...

And this was quite a while ago so it might have changed.

1.install emunand
2.format system nand, which should unlink them (?)
3.launch rxtools in emunand and update via system settings

alright guys I just installed emunand on my sd card and formatted the system nand, I have 2 profiles on my sd card so looks like they are unlinked. Before I do the emunand update I have 3 questions...

1. Why are some of the icons black on emunand?

2. Do I do the dbs curruption trick on both the systemnand and emunand to allow cias to install?

3. Do I remove the sd card when updating the emunand or leave it in when updating?

This isn't necessary to allow the CIAs to install. As long as you can boot CFW then you're good. Do you have a reliable CFW with Cia installer?

Leave it in.

About #1, ive never experienced that, but I'm sure others have. Would you mind posting a pic?
