How to export/import Gateway Card1 .sav to eShop/3ds/3dz with SaveDataFiler

I found a workaround how to export/import Card1 Savegames (no retail support)

First you know we had the problem of " CTR - BROKEN ", but there is a little trick to it.

!MT-Card USER can do this without Workaround because the save gets loaded on ROM mounting!

To fetch your Cartridge Savegames, you can use this method: NTR Savegame Manager Plugin

We need:

- Red Gateway Card
- The Exploit
- Launcher.dat (tested with 3.0.3 Ultra)
- SaveDataFiler
- The .3ds/.3dz/.cia Game you want to export/import
- A working Savegame (Dumped Savegames from Retail might not work)
- A PC/MAC (any Device capeable to rename Files)

!MAKE ALWAYS BACKUPS FROM YOUR SAVEGAMES!

A. EXPORT .3ds/.3dz to eShop:

Savegame example: Super Mario 3D Land (0004000000053F00) > http://3ds.essh.co/

1. Connect the SD Card to your PC
2. Copy your Savegame and save it as 000400000FF40A00.sav
3. Put SD Card back into your 3DS
4. Turn it on and execute Exploit
5. Mount your .3ds/.3dz Game
6. Start SaveDataFiler (CTR Card is no longer broken!) and highlight CTR Card
7. Press Y and then A to export the Savegame

SaveDataFiler stores in SDCARD:\filer\UserSaveData\20150131010203\0000053f
YEAR-MONTH-DAY-HOUR-MINUTE-SECONDS \ TitleID low

8. Switch to SD and highlight your TitleID
9. Press R+A and then A to import your Savegame
10. Press Home, select the cia game and press two times A to start

B. EXPORT eShop to .3ds/.3dz:

Savegame example: Super Mario 3D Land (0004000000053F00) > http://3ds.essh.co/

1. Start your 3DS and execute Exploit
2. Mount your Game
3. Start SaveDataFiler and highlight your TitleID low
4. Press Y and then A to export the Savegame
5. Switch over to SD and highlight TitleID low
6. Press L + A and then A to create 000400000FF40A00.sav (CTR Card is no longer broken!)
7. Turn your 3DS off and connect the SD CARD with your PC
8. Copy 000400000FF40A00.sav to your TitleID (0004000000053F00.sav)
9. Put your SD Card back into your 3DS
10. Turn your 3DS on and execute Exploit
11. Mount your Game and start it

Export Retail Card with CFW and SDF:

Note: As for CFW works only with FW4.5, 6.x encryption will fail.

1. You need CFW and installed SafeDataFiler on a spare SD Card
2. Start your CFW and insert your Cartridge
3. Start SafeDataFiler and highlight CTR Card
4. Press Y and then A to export the Savegame
5. Turn off your 3DS and move the 'filer' folder to your PC
6. Switch over to your Gateway (emuNAND) SD Card and add the 'filer' folder from PC
7. Insert your Gateway (emuNAND) SD Card into your 3DS
8. Start your 3DS, execute Exploit and start SaveDataFiler
9. Now you can follow A8 for eShop or B5 for .3ds/.3dz

(Be patient with CFW, sometimes it takes 10 tries to get it working)

Thx queno138 : original Post

Info:

"Nintendo 3DS\ID1\ID2\" = eShop , "000400000000XXXXXXX.sav" = Card 1

If your ID1\ID2 does not match after downgrade or formating 3DS,
your Save is LOST if there is no NAND Backup using that ID1\ID2!!!

If you have the NAND Backup matching ID1\ID2,
you can import it as emuNAND with emuNANDTool!

It is impossible to use NAND Backups or encrypted eShop saves
from another 3DS! You need to decrypt the saves first before you
can transfer them!

EXPORT / IMPORT from Original Cartridge is now possible
with Cubic Ninja + PASTA CFW + SaveData Filer!!!

This worked great. For those wanting to transfer their .3ds saves to .3dz (and vice versa), or .3dz with a public header to .3dz with a private header, you can follow the guide in this order:

A. EXPORT .3ds/.3dz save to decrypted save:

Savegame example: Super Mario 3D Land (0004000000053F00) > http://3ds.essh.co/

1. Connect the SD Card to your PC
2. Copy your Savegame and save it as 000400000FF40A00.sav
3. Put SD Card back into your 3DS
4. Turn it on and execute Exploit
5. Mount your .3ds/.3dz Game (Warning: The rom mounted must be the exact rom that has the same header as the save you want to decrypt)
6. Start SaveDataFiler (CTR Card is no longer broken!) and highlight CTR Card
7. Press Y and then A to export the Savegame (It will now be in the SD tab, decrypted).

B. EXPORT decrypted save to .3ds/.3dz save:

Savegame example: Super Mario 3D Land (0004000000053F00) > http://3ds.essh.co/

1. Put Rom you want to export the save to in your microSD (If transferring a save from a header-less .3ds to a .3dz, this is the time you replace said .3ds with said .3dz)
2. Run exploit
3. Mount the game
4. Start SaveDataFiler
5. Switch over to SD and highlight TitleID low
6. Press L + A and then A to create 000400000FF40A00.sav (CTR Card is no longer broken!)
7. Turn your 3DS off and connect the SD CARD with your PC
8. Copy 000400000FF40A00.sav to your TitleID (0004000000053F00.sav)
9. Put your SD Card back into your 3DS
10. Turn your 3DS on and execute Exploit
11. Mount your Game and start it

Note: I ran into a problem trying to decrypt a save because I had already replaced the corresponding .3dz rom with a new .3dz rom (with a private header) before decrypting the old save. This is why you must switch the rom only after part A is completed.

Been a long time since this post, but it saved my life, thanks a lot for trying to make it simpler for 3ds/3dz convert.

If I got it right, to make this work I need to be able to run both 3ds and cia files right? Because I've used a clone cart up until now and I wouldn't be able to.

question~ will this be compatible with NTR 3.0?
I tried, on gateway:
1. Rename the sav
2. Run NTR 3.0 CFW with plugin directory in microsd
3. Mount the game
4. Run the game with L held before starting
5. Saw the green flash
6. Went back to savedatafiler - still CTR broken
Where did I miss a step?

NTR has it's own SaveGamePlugin, saves in raw like SaveDataFiler does and stores in internal sdcard root with own folder for each titleid.

Hi, I use gateway and not NTR, will I be able to do this?

By the steps:
3. Put SD Card back into your 3DS
4. Turn it on and execute Exploit

What is the EXPLOIT? The NTR Plugin?

Is there a way to get this to work with pastacfw o with gateway? I am trying to export/import Smash 3ds game save from a .3dz file.

Try this for Gateway roms and see if it works properly
Note: This only outlines transferring saves from .3ds to .cia. Just use your logic if you want to do it the other way around :P

I see that NTR has a CIA file that gets installed to launch... but installing it on sysnand will not launch when in normal sysnand.... beats the purpose of having to go into a CFW to launch another CFW, dont you think? or am I understanding this wrong?

To use it in sysnand, you would load a CFW that can boot into sysnand with signature patches (pretty much all of them). Then you install NTR there, and launch it there.

It is similar to Free Multi Patcher in usage. You need to boot it in the same way if you want to access eShop on sysnand 9.2.

But I get what you mean lol. I like it this way actually, since I get to use all its functions while still using Gateway's functions.

weird thing going on, no matter how many times i restart mh4u with a new save and try to extract that new save i always end up extracting an old save, even though i started a new game.
that would be ok if when i edit my save and try to inject it back into the game nothing happens.
so if for example i edit my save and i put like 99999 money and all items etc, when i go back in the game its still the level 0 hunter with no money you get at the start, any one know whats going on?
i thought sav filer extracts mh4u save from the mounted crt card? i also have a gateway sav file thats made into the sd but i cant touch that coz save filer says its broken.

i tried to transfer my .3ds save to .cia and in step 9: "Press R+A and then A to import your Savegame" , i got this issue T_T

failure
result
level: -7
summary: 4
module: 17
desc: 120

anyone knows the problem??
Hm, running into the exact same issue right now.
Does the cia/eshop version of the target game have to be installed for this to work? I'll test it tomorrow but it would suck if this was the case, I just need to import an old save of mine to get some bonus in a new game lol

The "Mount Game" and the need of a Gateway Cart was a bit confusing for me as I pretty much got rid of the Gateway Card since I started using Reinand.

That and the fact that you have to have the .3ds game on your Gateway Cart even though you already have it installed as a cia. That probably confused me the most.

I then had to put the .3ds game back into the Gateway Cart and then I had to boot into Gateway Emunand instead of Reinand.

After that everything literally went ok and am really glad that my save file is with my cia game.

Thank you for the guide.

I'm trying to extract a Card1 Gateway save (.3ds) for save editing and I've tried this more times than I care to think about with no results whatsoever, can someone give a detailed step-by-step instruction on *EXACTLY* how to do this? The original guide is not even remotely complete enough.

Yo everybody,
is there a way to transfer eshop save (In my case: Animal Crossing) to retail cartridge...? Seems to be possibile the opposite way (retail to eshop digital download) but I don't find any process for the opposite. That sounds quite absurd to me... I paid the game 2 times but I can't transfer my eshop save (hours and hours of game) to retail copy in an easy way.

Thank you in advance.
