You should understand when you may be crossing a line.

Did you make a post ridiculously off topic or contribute to a ridiculously off topic conversation? Expect your post to be removed.
Did you blatantly insult another user? Expect your post to be removed.
Did you post a single image, a single word, or completely irrelevant anything? Expect your post to be removed.
Did you post as if you were in the EoF and not a regular section? Expect your post to be removed.

The reasons for post removal are fairly clear, and at least I've never been surprised when I've seen a post disappear, as when posting, I recognized it may have breached the limits of what would be okay for the thread in question. Regardless, if you don't get warned for it, odds are it was nothing major. It was just off topic or spammy enough to get removed. If you do get warned for it, you'll know exactly why. I don't see a reason for modifying the current system.

Some sort of auto notification may be a good idea, but expecting a mod to contact you personally is asking too much of them. Last thing they want to do after deleting 50 posts of offtopic/flaming is to contact each derpy derp individually.

I agree that there should be an automatic notification. Is there currently a way to see what you wrote in your own deleted comment? I think you should be able to see your own and the reason it was removed.

There is a "notify member" checkbox in the post deletion menu, we're just too lazy busy to fill out the "Reason:" box (and that's separate from the publicly visible deletion reason that replaces the post when it's deleted) for every post we delete. But I'll start checking that option from now on. When I delete your post, you'll know it's been well and truly deleted

How about "not shitposting" so that your posts and threads don't have to be deleted, hmm? The moderating team does its best to keep the forums nice and tidy, they may not always have the time to explain exactly what silly thing you did today, but you can always contact them later. Not that I'm trying to be mean, I don't like "shadow edits" myself, but there's usually an obvious reason why something was deleted. I am all for notifying users - let's notify them with Warnings, since that's what the system's there for.

But shitposting is fun, you of all people should know this.

Deleting posts you consider bad is fine, but can we get notified about it? If I legitimately think that one of my deleted posts were fine, I will keep posting the same way.
totally agreed. i haven't had any issues with this on gbatemp but have had the same issue on other forums. if i post something and come back 10 mins later and see the page just like i left it minus my post i assume its because i forgot to click post. (which i do do frequently)

even just a copy pasted preset message would be sufficient.

Speaking of deleting post. Do we not have the option to delete our own post(s)? Say we accidentally post in the wrong thread or make a post with irrelevant information. Can we not do this? I looked for the delete post option while trying to edit a post but didn't see it. Thanks!

That only sends anything if you type a message in the box next to it, though :P

Edit: Actually it does. It's not currently checked by default, though.

not checked by default? oh yeah, I was thinking of when we move threads.

Maybe we should enable it by default then ;)

You can't delete your own posts, you have to use the report button and ask us to delete or move them.
