Wait. What happened. This thread almost turned in to a happy place full of agreement instead of what it was earlier?

People stopped fighting it and accepted the Wii U as a failure. Accepted that Nintendo made a whole series of mistakes that started arguably in the 16bit era (Sega was probably the first to court a few developers, Sony took that method and ran with it) but came to a head with the N64's failure and has basically gone downhill from there. With the 3ds still floundering a bit and being under pressure from the first real competition in decades it seems Nintendo does not even have handhelds to mask it.
There were some good games along the way, maybe even some great ones, but that matters little in business talk.

When people are in agreement like that it tends to make for agreeable discussion.

I think more along the line people stopped wanting to argue that much and each side conceded a little to the other. Not the "people reached exact the same conclusions that I have" speech that you just gave.

I guess which has their own taste. I personally would like to have a Wii U, admittedlly for the Nintendo games, but I like them and that's what matter to me. I just think it's a bit too early to point out the Wii U as a failure yet and can't understand all the hate it's getting.

I agree it is pointless to debate a lot of that and it is far more interesting to debate where Nintendo went wrong this time and what they could do to pull things back, or even if they should. However the other "side" seemed to be arguing things like the N64 was not a failure and that does not hold up and should be addressed.

Well I do think the gamepad, at least a requirement with the purchase of every system, has proven to be a costly mistake I am still personally gateful Nintendo took a chance on it and sold it to me at a discount ( they take a loss on hw sale)

For my use case I love the thing. I have a large family and the wii u is in the common room on a shared tv. I prefer people to play games here rather than to be locked up in a separate room away from the family. Me and my kids all play it to some degree and we have had great fun playing local multiplayer like in Nintendoland and several platformers. We have had plenty of games to play and have not felt the drought to any degree. We also have other systems and play other games too. I love the bc and had plenty of wii accesoies I am still using to good effect. We personally enjoy the system and am looking forward to what is yet to come.

That's good enough for me personally. I feel glad that I bought it. I hope it at least becomes profitae for Nintendo but overall I am a fan of what they are doing.

The gamepad I don't think would exist in the same way if it was not initially required and so I am grateful Nintendo took a chance on it. I think now it should become optional sometime this year but I will still always get to enjoy it. My warranty is up soon so I will probably hack it soon. I feel the wii u has potential still to become even better. Even if it only does gamecube numbers and barely is profitable I am still plenty happy with it.

the gamepad is fine to use but making you use it in games that don't need it especially when the pro controller works just fine is just ridiculously stupid.
I agree even though I love the gamepad. Artificially requiring it doesn't make sense. Giving users more options makes wii U better.

There's the problem: it is philosophically impossible to lump the words "Nintendo", "happy", and "agreement" into a logical statement that people won't try to contradict.
"Nintendo executives are happy to announce that they've reached and agreement and decided that it's time to close doors - we thank you all for your patronage". :)

That is not the computer game world way. You need to chop the end off and say "you should have purchased more of our games despite how much you might not have cared to play them".

Pretty sure that would be counter-productive. Capcom has a fantastic talent for losing money. ;O;

Pretty sure that "big daddy" is having problems with their latest system. Come to think of it, maybe it would be a match made in heaven. ;O;

*ding *ding *ding!!! We have a winner! :) "Nintendo, do you take Capcom to be your lawfully wedded wife; to love and cherish her, in sickness and in health, in the good times and bad, 'til death do you part?" "I do." "And Capcom, do you take Nintendo to be your lawfully wedded husband; to honor and obey him, in sickness and in health, in the good times and bad, 'til death do you part?" "I do." "I know pronounce you the team that will kick the game industry's corporate asses and rise to power once more. You may kiss the bride."

For all intents and purposes, Capcom is one of the worst offenders in terms of unfair corporate practices in the gaming industry. On-disc DLC, pay2win microtransactions, ten zillion quadrillions of re-releases of the same games with minor facelifts - the term "Crapcom" didn't just appear out of thin air. ;)

They're obviously trying to kill themselves. But I doubt Nintendo would allow them to continue those practices if they merged. Nintendo doesn't practice unfair corporate practices, just stupid ones. Capcom could suffer a similar fate as Bayonetta 2: either be bought by Nintendo or be canceled altogether. You know, E3 is coming up. I wonder what would happen if people visited their booths and persuaded them to buy each other out?

Edit: That's supposed to be *now, not know.

A Nintendo owned dev thinks a Nintendo system is a powerhouse?

I think I shall ask a KKK member, his opinion on race relations.

Nope. Devs actually know the wii u is not as weak as they make it out to be. Can anyone who laughs at the wii u, build a wii u? I dont think so. Anyway the reason why devs say the wii u is weak is because it takes time for them to port it because it has different(weaker) hardware, compared to the ps4 or xbox1. They just want lazy ports, but instead they need to work on it. So they just give up. Thats why they call the wii u weak.
