1. Yes, you need a 3DS or 3DS XL with firmware version 4.1 to 4.5 to use any flash cart currently.Hey guys, not new to the forums but new to 3DS flash carts. A few questions.
I don't currently have a 3DS. I would like to get a 3DS XL. I saw the thread that said I would need firmware 4.5 or less.
(1) Is this true? I really wanted the Zelda 3DS XL
(2) If it is true, then is the information in this thread still current?

(need serial numbers ending in SW12XXXXXX X)
(3)I had a DS flashcart. Can you still have multiple ROM's on 1 flashcart or can you only have 1 game at a time?
(4) I would like to be able to play online. If I understand correctly you cannot currently play ROMs online, only original retail games? Playing online wouldn't be a big deal for me.
(5) Which flashcart would you recommend? I read the flashcart comparison chart and they all seem the same?
2. Yes, up to date with all the information we have so far.
3. Any 3DS flash cart also comes with a DS flash cart in order to exploit DS mode. With DS flash carts, you can play with as many ROMs on one card as you like (even on 3DS consoles). With the 3DS flash cart, it's one ROM per microSD card currently, with one exception (will explain in 5).
4. Yes, only retail cartridges can be played online currently using sysNAND or emuNAND (flash cart).
5. Gateway 3DS is the only team doing completely original work, and it's the only flash cart that won't brick your system right now. OTOH, it's speculated that Gateway is the reason why other flash carts are bricking consoles, as it's their modified launcher which is being used with those other flash carts. So I'd recommend either buying a Gateway or holding off buying any flash cart altogether for the moment, and wait for more information to come in/be confirmed.
Your other option is the MT card, which does have multirom on one microSD card, even in 3DS mode. They are also using a modified Gateway launcher, but it's based on an older version and is safe right now. However, the future of their updates is unclear, and their ROM compatibility is pretty poor currently.
