Hi, all. I have a USB drive that I formatted specifically for playing my gamecube backups. It works fine with my white Wii, but for some reason, my black Wii with the same configurations (minus CIOS 222 and 223, because I forgot how to install them, and all the tutorials I found result in error). I've had other problems as well, such as not being able to play a disk game with IOS249 installed without having to do a forced update, turning the IOS into a stub, making all my USB loaders unusable. Has anyone else had. the same experience? I'm trying to use CFG Loader, by the way. I only want to use that. The other USB loaders I have don't work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling DIOS MIOS 2.10.

For the forced update thing, simply install Priiloader and enable update-blocking hacks and any other ones you may want.
I can't tell why GC backups won't work on your black Wii, if the exact same setup and hardware works on the white one then logically it should work the same on the black one.

If you are trying to load Burned GC copies, I might have your answer.

FIRST DO A PROPER WII HACK/CIOS INSTALL.
No guessing please.

Use modmii and follow it's generated guide.
Tell modmii your Wii has never been hacked before.

Every Wii is the same basicly, so there should be no problem doing a ( basic ) cios installation.
After you have done that, post again.

all black wii are incapable of loading burnt game due to nintendo removing the unused dvd code from the drive.
your only option will be usb loading with dios-mios lite

No, I'm not trying to load burned disks. I already know they're incompatible with newer and colored Wiis. As mentioned above...

*koff koff...*

AS MENTIONED ABOVE...BECAUSE I ALREADY MENTIONED IT...

I'm using a USB loader. Got it? Good. USB loader. Get your head out of the clouds.

Oh, bother...nevermind. I'll just figure it out myself.

God damn, though, I already told you people everything, yet all of you, ALL of you assume I'm trying to run a burnt disk. Think I wouldn't do my research before asking for human help? Seriously...

Okay, look. If there's anyone else that has a real answer, I'm still waiting, but read the freaking post I made. All of it.

Make sure your Hdd is formatted properly and your GC games are in the Games folder on the First active partition.

Before going further do a rehack with the help of modmii to get rid of your cios stubs and get your softmodd up to date.
After that install the latest DIOSMIOS.

This is all we can offer you.

LOL he said his HDD is working fine on white WII, i would say, try checking your usb loader version, some older versions do nt work with dios mios, check if you are using the exact same version you are running on your white wii

edit: check also you are runing the normal dios mios for hdd, dios mios lite is for sd back up

edit2: i read again your first post and maybe your black wii isnt soft mod like your white wii.
I used "pimp my wii" for mine (white) and it's pretty simple in normal mode (it install all cios you need and the last up to date and update your wii without breaking your softmod), (and if you are not a beginner there is a good advanced mode). but the normal mode should be enough

because maybe u got 2 sd cards with different stuff.

not much to say other than: always use modmii!

Easy there, fellow. It's not personal. It's just that we've seen the amount of people who don't do their research far too much to assume otherwise.

IOS 249 gets stubbed if you do an official update (either by connecting online or inserting a new game). Both can be disabled with priiloader hacks (and no, you don't miss anything by disabling them. Or skipping that update).

Unfortunately, the USB loader by itself isn't enough. It is depending on other cIOS'es being up to date enough to do their job. And if other loaders even refuse to start, that sets off alarm bells on this end.

I advise to do a syscheck (basically running this piece of homebrew and post the result here. Or, if you still have that white wii around: do a same check on that one and note the differences. It's a bit of a long shot, but I think IOS58 may be missing on your newer one (aside from a couple stubs in the >200 range). Hermes's cIOS'es (222, 223 and 224) aren't required. The latest cMIOS you will certainly need.

Oh, and a piece of advice here: never actually uninstall a IOS, mIOS or cIOS. Just overwrite them with another (better) version. :)

Other than that...well...once you've got the same IOS, cMIOS and cIOS setup, simply start with the same SD card and/or USB drive you used on your white wii. This way, chances of failure should be removed to a bare minimum. :)

earny: While it may be possible that they have improved in the mean time to the point where it wasn't a rough gamble that it actually worked better afterwards (and doesn't break things)*, it simply cannot match the simplicity, elegance and information of modmii.

*answer me this: does it still overwrite standard IOS'es with cIOS ones? Because if so...that is a more than useless thing to do on a colored wii.

Well, he stated it VERY clearly on his first post. "I'm trying to use CFG Loader, by the way. I only want to use that."

It's just you people that won't read.

1.- "If you are trying to load Burned GC copies, I might have your answer."

2.- "all black wii are incapable of loading burnt game due to nintendo removing the unused dvd code from the drive.

First of all, thanks for the advice. That's actually the most helpful thing I've ever seen on this site ever. Well done, good sir. I'll go ahead and try installing some new CIOSs as you said, and I might actually still have Modmii installed from my white Wii's setup...though I remember all the tools I used being from the same sources that I found from Modmii. Maybe they're not.

I'm not sure about your question. I think it just reinstalls with a stub of whatever version IOS it chooses. It's always 249, but sometimes a different one, usually that I have no use for, anyways.

Everything's the same on both Wiis that I own, the black one and the white one, except for CIOS 222 and 223, which I thought were useless. I certainly didn't use them, anyways. IOS58 is NOT missing, otherwise my HBC wouldn't have any way to load. It's probable that IOSs greater than 200 are stubs or missing.

thank you. I made sure to state everything I could think of clearly, and most importantly the utilities I was trying to use. I'm glad one person noticed entirely.

Well...I'll have to disagree. I would say that modmii is the most helpful thing ever seen on this site. But that's of course just my opinion. :)

The question on the side I asked because more than a few guides go and install darkcorp, or worse: cIOScorp on your wii (cioscorp is an outdated version of darkcorp). This not only could destabilize some things on your wii, but is literally AT BEST useless on any wii of which the drive refuses to read backup disks. And all colored wii's (as well as the family edition) are among those. It wasn't a major point of my post...it was just to point out that guides that aren't updated regularly and do not take different end goals into account (if you just aim to play games from USB drive - which is better anyway - there is no need to mess with anything below the 200 range).
That is also the main advantage of modmii. If something new comes along that is more stable or updated than the previous one, it includes that. And drops something if it has no purpose anymore.

That aside...having IOS58 is good (the HBC can run from cIOS'es as well, but why settle for anything less than the best option? ;) ). And 222, 223...erm...unless you're trying some REALLY exotic stuff and are stubborn to make it work that way*, then I it's basically useless. You certainly won't be needing it to play wii or gamecube games.

But honestly: check whatever is occupying slot 249 (and 250, if you're following modmii's advice). Nintendo wants it to be a stub...but you don't (a stub is basically 'a cIOS without anything but the name'). So if not solved already: make sure to install whatever modmii suggests there. :)

* Hermes, the author of 222 and 223, also made a loader (uloader) that could play games as well as do some basic emulated nand stuff. Around the same time, other loaders started doing that as well (mighty channels and so on), but though both methods got most wiiware to run, uloader had a small handful of games that ran that the other method couldn't run (swords & soldiers, to name one). Then full emulated nands became possible and the small advantage wasn't unique anymore. And even then: it's possible that the more recent changes to d2x and the loaders got even that to work properly.

Yeah, I looked at uloader, and it sucks. Well, not really, but I don't have any reason to use it at this point in time, because of more streamlined loaders. I don't see any reason for 222 and 223 to be used, but I think that's the only difference. I have 249 installed as base 57 (I think, maybe 58 actually) so I can actually run the loader, since it refuses to work without it despite being obsolete, and I use 248 mostly at base 57 to run Kirby's Return to Dreamland and SSBB, but I'll sometimes use 250 at base something to run some weird games. I hardly use that, though, and the concern is currently Gamecube, so I don't see how any of it affects that. I'm currently in Iowa on vacation, so I can't really give you my specs right now, but I'll make sure to do that soon.

Now that I think of it, I probably don't have anything base 58 installed right now. HBC runs on the original copy.

I'll keep you posted with information soon, and Modmii doesn't really count as a forum post, more like software, in which I'd say it's the most amazing piece of software in existence.
