Hacking Updating Wii Softmod

Hello i have a Wii that is softmodded and hardmodded(with a wiikey 1) anyway's i bought it used 4 year's ago and i wanted to update the softmod.

The only things that i have updated on it was the ios and that was about a year and a half ago.
I don't know what hack the original owner used, But i wanted protection against bricking it(and other stuff), my mom like to play the emulators but she some times messes up thing on the sd(deleting files and other things)

The wii is on 4.1E and has the homebrew channel installed and updated

I don't want to want to update the firmware because from what i have read, when you update the firmware past 4.1X with a wiikey 1 installed, the wiikey loose the ability to play other region retail and backup games, I use disk based games because of mom has messed up my usb loaders before and like this she can just put the dvd in and play.

I would also like to ask what exactly does DIOS MIOS do and do i need it to play GC ISO off of usb/sd card?

Use ModMii to update your console, and install priiloader 0.7 and BootMii from the HackMii Installer.

You can do all of this with ModMii

I should elaborate a little bit more.

Priiloader is essential for antibrick protection. It boots before the system, and lets you launch the homebrew channel, bootmii, or any app you migtht have on your SD card. It also provides you with System Hacks like Block Online Updates, Block Discs Updates, etc.This two in particular are a must.

BootMii is essential too. I advice you do a full nand backup to your SD with this app before touching anything. It should be step 1.

To launch priiloader, power on the console while pressing down the reset button. From there, you can launch bootmii if you have it installed. Take in consideration that you must have the bootmii files on your SD card in order to access it. The installer has an option for this called Prepare SD Card.

and what about DIOS MIOS do i need that install to play GC games form usb or can i just use devolution?

Depends. Devolution is better in my opinion, but you need the original game discs. If this is not your case, you will have to use Dios Mios.

But since you have an older Wii with WiiKey installed, you can just play GC games by simply burning the .iso to a blank DVD.

but the problem i have is that my dvd burner is not working right now so no burning .iso's for me and does ModMii install Priiloader and BootMii?

i have installed BootMii as ios and boot2, and i restarted my wii, it shows the BootMii menu but my wiimote wont connect is there away to set it to auto load to the wii menu unless i hold some button on the wii, like reset and/or eject when the wii is powering up?

use boot2 if you have the choice, much more secure and reliable than ios. Then install priiloader.

you cant navigate the menues in bootmii with the wiiremote, you have to use the POWER and RESET keys

ok thanks. i will be doing a nand backup in a couple of minutes(no one will even touch the wii untill it's done) and i will be installing priiloader
