Hacking Need some help - can't see why my R4 card still isn't working.....

Hi All,

I've had a look through the search, but can't seem to find what I'm looking for..... so would appreciate your input.

I bought my daughter a 3DS for Xmas 2012.... bought an R4 3DS card and all worked well..... until the dingleberry upgraded the DS to 4.5.0-10e......

Obviously, the card stopped working.

My *understanding* is that now the R4 3DS card should work with 4.5.0-10e: so I've downloaded v1.69b from the site (http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/downloade.asp).
Chucked it on the SD card but despite seeing the "Metroid Prime Hunters Demo Game" icon, when I tap it I get the usual

"An error has occurred. Press and hold the POWER button to turn the system off. Please refer to the Operations Manual for details".

Am I to assume that the card still won't work with my firmware?

The files you put on the MicroSD are the software/os/menu/kernel. In order to update the firmware you need to RUN the update (not just put it on the MicroSD).

So you need another DS that still runs it.

I've got another 3DS in the same condition (another smart-a$$ daughter! ), so no use. and an older DS....... can I do run the update on this? If so, how?

You can use any DS the cart stills run on, and as for the exact method to run the firmware update, it should be listed somewhere on the site you get the downloads from.

Thanks for this: After reading your link, I've managed to get the cart to run on my old DS (once I'd found the PSU!! ) However when I go to "upgrade", my DS isn't supported. GRRR Any suggestions?

Sounds like the update is for a newer model than you have. This happens all the time nowadays, companies (R4-SDHC in particular is bad for it) will put out new models, and then stop updating the older ones so that customers have to keep buying a new model every now and then.

Hi there,

Well, I've changed the firmware as directed above (thanks), and now have the bomberman icon
Changed back to 1.69b from the r4 site, and I still get the "error has occurred" logo on my 3DS.

I don't like thinking that it's beaten me, but I suspect that I need to get a newer/better card: one that works properly with the 3DS.

Am I correct?

What does it say on the card? Is it the one marked 4.5?

Sorry about late reply, email notifications were going in my spam folder!
It just says "r4 3ds".

By the edge connector, it says "3"

Just get a supercard, so you dont have to go through all the red tape over and over and over
