R4 card not working

So I've had this R4 card for about 12 years at this point, and haven't touched it in about 11 years because it stopped working, and then forgot about it for a while. The other day I found it again when looking through my old DS stuff, and when I tested it the same problem that was happening 11 years ago was still happening. When I put in the R4 card and turn on my DS, the DS load screen starts up and then freezes before I am even able to get to the main screen (see attached photo). This only happens with the R4 card as I have tried with my brother's DS and same issue, and other games work with both DS's. In looking through the threads here, I haven't found any posts about people having this same problem, so I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to fix this issue.

Try putting a cardboard piece in front of the card as a way to ensure it's correctly inserted.

The cardboard should also make the card go in further. Have you also tried that?

That's what I assumed was going to be the case, but thanks at least for trying to help.
