But then, if the donations continue at the current rate, by the time it reaches the goal there's every chance a new exploit could be found. And following what neimod and yellows8 are documenting on 3dbrew, it seems like they're mapping out the 3DS quite well without a decap. If someone could provide a more convincing argument than, "it might possibly offer an alternative to what is alreayd being done for free, maybe", I'd happily throw in 15-20 dollars.

^this here. It's not like the hack was/is coming out tomorrow, next week, next month, etc (not saying it's fake, just saying that nobody knows when or if it will be released). You can either leave your 3DS to sit stagnant without playing new games while waiting on a hack that may never be released, or you can move on with your lif. Who knows, maybe a new hack will come out that requires you to be on the newest firmware, and you just sat there not enjoying your 3DS due to one little hang up.
Unless we can get a lot more interested hackers/developers who have the time and money to invest in working on the 3DS and/or people willing to help fund research, we will just have to wait and see what the future holds. I, for one, have already updated as to not ban myself from my 3DS.
I think that they shouldn't release the hack, I think that is too early for that at this point. They should firstly examine soft - new one and learn how they fix and what they fix. Good idea is also make sth like E-Shop faker - so E-Shop could get fake info about FW version - so ideal.

Annoyed. I have no interest in any new games right now so update doesn't matter to me. However, I can't help but feel like I'm missing out on some mythical enhancements. Do ALL games run at a higher FPS now, such as MH3U? That's the only thing I'm playing right now, and Fire Emblem.
It seems there's no clear consensus, other than what the front page says, on whether updating is really going to effect homebrew abilities. So I'm not looking for an answer to that, I just want to weigh benefit vs potential benefit. If there's no reason to update, I'm not going to.

The best move at the moment is to chip decap the 3DS. At the same time they don't have enough donations for that. Everyone needs to spread the word about the donations.
TBH I don't even have a 3DS, It's 3D effects makes my eyes go funny and gives me a migraine. Some have said well just turn off the 3D but that's like having a car but you cant use more than 1st gear. So I am waiting for used 3DS's to be at a low enough price point.
That said I do like to watch the situation between hackers / homebrew creators and Nintendo
I've been there, and in not being able to drive your car higher than first gear, your car is useless.
The 3DS functions perfectly well without 3D. I rarely even use it on mine. It's more like driving a perfectly good car and just not being able to use the radio.
Still that's money wasted when you cant use all the features, though id rate it higher than just the radio in the analogy since car manufacturers don't advertise making a large point of what radio is in the car
Hence I wouldn't splash out too much for a console that I couldn't use every feature if I so chose too
