Hello everyone,

Sadly my SD Card was corrected for no reason after using InterRedirection to use an external controller for my 3ds, after lunching Super Smash Bros. For 3DS the game says: couldn't format the SD Card. This is something very weird that I saw this message from this game, then a message appear from the bootloader saying: the SD Card was removed, reboot.

After that all my files are gone and my SD card is no longer readable from any device،

But thankfully I remember that I made a fully backup for the SD and the SysNAND

I bought a new SD Card and copy all of my old SD files to the new one and start Super Smash Bros. But there is no save data, the other games still remains the saved data but smash not, do I need to restore SysNAND backup? Things like Activity log and system apps will be okay and won't change or got deleted?

Thanks !

If I understood your situation correctly, no, you don't need to restore SysNAND backup unless you had RedNAND set up (in which case it would be a RedNAND backup, I guess).

Just because your SD card got corrupted doesn't mean your system got effected. It's possible to boot without an SD card and everything will work fine, however anything you installed (games, applications) or stored (save games, homebrew) to the SD card will not be there.

Moving the Nintendo directory is enough, unlike systems like Vita there are no per-memory-card shenanigans, at least none I'm aware of. Can't use the same card as-is on another system, but can use any card in one system.

As a reminder, system applications and their data (e.g. Activity Log, Friends, StreetPass) are stored internally.

Thanks for the information!

But that’s weird the games data is back but not super smash.. I copied all the files and data to my new sd card, but I don’t know why Super Smash saves and extra data got deleted/couldn’t be restored

Presumably your backup predates your Smash save data?

Edit: It looks like Smash, and specifically Smash deletes the save in some cases...

That's right, Super Smash Bros uses Anti Savegame Restore. This is the first time I can recall someone actually running into this problem with Super Smash Bros, but if it's like all the other games that use Anti Savegame Restore (i.e. Pokemon and Animal Crossing), the solution is to restore the save data from the SD card backup and then – before starting the game, which evidently wipes the save data – use Checkpoint to back up the save data, and then restore it with Checkpoint again.

After that all my files are gone and my SD card is no longer readable from any device،
FYI, standard PC file recovery utilities are handy in situations like this. Testdisk and Easeus are popular. See https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/96kg4v/my_3ds_sd_got_corrupted_and_i_successfully/ .
