Helllo to all you gbatempers,

have been browsing the site for a while,
I have been using ndsl and supercard mini for some time for gba
and R4i for ds,
I'm a big fan of the gba productions
just picked up a 3DSXL and am getting used to it
and finally feel that the bigger screen is better, though I wait for the day
when the make the resolution sharper....

any way it would be the cherry on the cake if I could get metal slug to run on the
mame4all emulator, but I can't get it to run
and I don't wont to fiddle around with the converter soft

any body can point me in the right direction I'd be v happy

(I tried dingoo but couldn't get the .msv rom to run, (maybe I need to rename it ???? )
not too computer litterate to be honest hahhaha
thanks........

しっかりと理解してもらえるように、英語も日本語も、両方とも言います。
Just to make sure that you understand perfectly, I'll say this both in English and in Japanese.

Ace thanks for getting back

answer yes and no... I know what we can and can't do on this site....
I found two sets of 0.37b5 roms at an 'old' site, if you follow,
but when I drop the zip file into the mame4all rom folder
they don't show up,
even if i go into moonshell2 to read the folder it's empty even tho' the zip file is in there
am I missing something or are all the mslug 0.37b5 rom sets not working yet..
thanks....

Ichidan,

as far as I know you don't extract mame zip from the folder, they are read directly from the zip folder
but the folder does have to have the correct name, mine are just zip files for now and
contain a bunch of .rom files
but they have become 'invisible' - everything else on my dstwo works AOK,
its just I can't get anything I want to run in mame4all to run for now......
so if anyone has run mslug in mame4all on 3DSXL with a dstwo I'd be v happy to know
how they did it...................................

I don't know much on the subject, but dont you have to extract zip files?
No, you leave MAME/Arcade roms zipped.

@[member='spAceshoOter']: Mame4All isn't a 100% mame port, it only does certain types of arcade boards, NeoGeo (which Metal Slug in run on) not being one of them. You're going to have to use NeoDS instead, if you're having problems turning the .zips into .neo roms try using this with the converter.

I believed and maybe wrongly that mame4all supports any 0.37b5 rom set
and some mslug romsets are available
neods doesn't really interest me as there are no save states
(i believe it runs .mvs files but my goal is to run mslug thro' mame4all)
maybe it's too early........

neogeo roms on the dingoo require conversion. you can run metal slug on the neods emu, roms require "conversion" as well. the included documentation should help you out. i'm fairly certain that you will not be able to run metal slug on mame4all. alekmaul included documentation that outlines supported games, why not give that a read?

great thanks I understand part of my problem now.

I dumped mame and am running neods, wow what a neat idea
anyway my problem is in fact that when I hit the convert file it goes thro' the process screen
BUT i'm only getting one file out, yes only one, and its the neogeo.neo file,
i have renamed it to the .zip file name (ie mslug in my case) and loaded it but it appears in
neods but wont run, (which is probably normal as it's a sort of side file thingy)
so what I now don't get is why I'm not getting my mslug zip file to produce the mslug.neo file
total mystery to me, but I am almost, almost there, after much hassle tho'
any help appreciated again.....

Just to conclude,
I moved away from the 0.37b5 conversion problem as so many of them came up dead
and just hunted around for .neo instead, neo are you out there ;)
and so far have got 2 4 5 6 and X running, 1 and 3 were duds 1st time round but I'll keep a look out for them
thanks a lot, sometimes a small hint is all it takes,
cheers and happy gaming

the .neo file is the converted file that neods will run. renaming it will break compatibility as the emu is looking for the .neo extension to populate its list. look for neo-geo mame v0.120 roms, i do believe these are the files required for this emu. i highly recommend the universe bios as well, it offers some nice features like cheats and dip switch settings.

Thanks for the info on the mame roms
as for unibios, you just delete the previous bios and replace with unibios is that it,
no other problems after that ???

And a closing comment, when you look for roms for neods they must contain .bin files
they seem to be the only ones that are convertible,
so check your zip file before you get disappointed and
even then some of the .neo files just wont run
and some may run better than others, sometimes you have to get
10 or so zip files to get one good one, until someone starts
to make a host site for working tested .neo files
thanks to all who make it possible as it is great to be able to neogeo on a ds after all........................
