Normally for such "momentous" news I'd make a front page post but seeing as this is literally just three bullet points I'll wait until we get some larger news for a front page post.

Dragon Age, along with Mass Effect, have been BioWare's two leading IPs in the current generation of consoles. With Mass Effect just wrapping up its trilogy and rumors circulating around the third Dragon Age game, it seems that it has finally been announced. Meet Dragon Age III. By "meet" I mean "read very little info on it but still put coal in the hype machine since the game is actually announced."

A blog from one of the designers of the lead game details his experience with BioWare, starting at Baldur's Gate and moving onto many of their famous (and infamous titles) such as Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, and of course, Dragon Age and its sequel. As for the new game, he only gave us brief details on it.
  • It will be titled Dragon Age III: Inquisition. It's the third Dragon Age game.
  • It's comprised of a team from Dragon Age vets as well as some new talent.
  • The game will be running on a completely new engine. It is said to have "better visuals, more reactivity to player choices, and more customization." The base for this engine is apparently Frostbite 2.
Information is still scarce though, with more on the way soon.

Interesting to know it is still happening after DA2. Do hope the next one is closer in terms to origins though.

I really hope it'll be as good, or better than the first, I really enjoy games where my choices actually make some sort of impact in the world and the greater the character customisation the better, unlike in most J-RPG's where the main character is given a backstory of sorts, most western rpg's are more open, leaving the player to really see themselves as the character, for that reason I really love customisation... Now I wonder if there'll ever be a Neverwinter Nights 3... My fave PC RPG was Neverwinter Nights 2, such a masterpiece. *-*

They said they've been working on it for two years now, so I really hope it'll be release sometime next year, there aren't that many W-RPG's being announced lately. =S

I heard amazing things about the first one and that it shares some similarities with KotOR, which I absolutely love(!), so I definitely have some catching up to do on the series...

Forget character customization and make Sandal the protagonist. Keep Varric around as his trusty sidekick.

This is a recipe for success.

Indeed the only two redeeming qualities of DA2 were Varric and Sandal.

But DA2 was a rather complete mess so I hope this goes back towards the DAO style of storytelling and characters, AKA making them good.

Or even better, try something really new. No one expects the Dragon Age III: Inquisition.

Good timing, I just finished DA2 again yesterday.

Going by the title, I'm guessing it'll mostly revolve around the 'war' that started at the end of DA2 rather than just resolve it mostly offscreen like I half expected them to. As long as I don't have to buy a next-gen console to play it (other than maybe the Wii U) it's a day 1 purchase for me. I just hope we get more meaningful choices than DA2, although I did like that accidentally choosing the wrong dialogue option in one partner quest led to me wiping out pretty much a whole clan of elves.

I hope you're joking, because there's tons of quality JRPGs where you can make choices that lead to different story branches and endings. In fact, most of Bioware's recent stuff has been more linear and JRPG-like than tons of JRPGs.

My fave rpg series are Dragon Quest, SMT and Tales series, I never said anything about jrpgs not having quality or anything and yes, they lead to different story branches and endings, I played all the jrpgs released in english for PS2, DS, Snes and 360 (heck, even the hentai jrpgs for pc which do offer a lot of story branches). The point is, most Jrpgs have a buit in character and a set story, you might make choices but the game in itself is different, look at Fallout 3 and Elder of Scrolls, or Neverwinter Nights 2, they're different types of games, besides the latest Dragon Quest and a few others, there aren't that many Jrpgs where you actually make your own character. The old days rpgs had silent protagonists so that the player could identify with the character more easily and all that stuff, which is why I love that type. Point is, they're completely different games in feeling, the customisation you're mentioning is dif from the one I'm talking about.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
